i did enjoy how the ending of season 1 of game of thrones had some of Aryas first chapter from the second book with her meeting Lemmy and Hotpie and all that. So its not going to be scene for scene book 1 = season 1. I'll admit ive never been a big fiction reader but i really got into reading after watching the first season of this show.

It definitely makes sense why they did it. Robb is a main character outright in the show, and a main character behind the scenes in the books. Just because you hear a lot of general details about Robb in book 2, doesn't mean it would make for good TV to take one of the primary heroes of the show and just pretty much drop him for a season.

It looks to me like we'll see a lot of what happened with Robb in the "talked about" periods of book 2.

I really would be curious to see their approach to a given season. Particularly once the books start running in tandem with one another later in the series. How will that translate to the screen?

I personally think without a shadow of a doubt that book 3 is the best. I think it should be read because there are parts in it that are so well written and intense and because of the POV style, I don't think they'll translate the same way to the screen.

Just my annoying .02 (because I realize I'm not helping you).

My gf also thinks book 3 is the best and for that reason I have been plowing through book 2 like my hair was on fire. Hope to finish it so I can have a solid three weeks before the TV premiere to knock out the next book.

The third book is absolutely the best.

I finished A Clash of Kings last night. Started Storm of Swords immediately after.

I'm giving this show a second chance. The first time I tried watching it I couldn't get passed all the Lord of the Rings aesthetic. I'm really not a fan of that medieval fantasy bullshit. But this show is really good, especially on bluray. I'm only three episodes in so far.

Its really not that similar to Lord of the Rings besides medieval type setting. With LOTR you knew who was good and who was bad and had a solid idea of what the outcome would be. With this show it is nowhere near as clear cut especially later on. Plus the magic aspect is very light, especially early on.
