Second episode leaked. Going to wait a few days to watch, I don't want a two week break for episode three.

i have some questions about episode 1

what was the deal with the baby being killed at the end of the show. what did the whore house have to do with anything the guards were looking for?

and what was going on in the beach scene with that woman and old man arguing about the old god and new god? And who was that guy they were serving? was that king roberts brother?

jon snow and those guys showed up at the house with the guy who marrys his daughters. Who was he and what was the reasoning behind his appearance? Also, who were the night watchers looking for in the north?

The baby was Robert Baratheon's bastard daughter "Barra".

That guy on the beach was Roberts brother "Stannis", who should rightfully be king right now. He was only talked about in Season 1 for about 30 seconds, and it was to reveal that nobody in King's Landing really liked him. And that his younger brother feels he would be a more fit king.

              1. That was all of Robert's black-haired bastards being wiped out. With the rumor of Joffrey's real parentage going around you can't afford to keep all of the reminders of Robert's "seed being strong." The one that they didn't find though, the blacksmith's apprentice, is riding north with Arya... (Dun dun dun)

              2. Yeah that's Stannis Baratheon, Robert's other brother. The woman is a priestess of a foreign religion who has converted him somewhat, and they were burning the 7 gods that are traditionally worshiped in Westeros.

              3. He's just an old man who occasionally gives the Watch shelter and information. He's not really a friend of theirs, but he's one of the few who takes them in beyond the wall.

To answer some of Maynard's Questions

Q1- it seems to me the baby's being killed were late King Robert Baratheon bastard children. in the episode Cersei Lannister and Joffrey had a discussion. In the discussion Joffrey asked how many bastard children did his father have with whores. My thinking was that either she was pissed so she sent the soldiers to kill all the children or Joffrey is finally understanding that he isn't the rightful heir to the throne, decided to kill the children in case anyone tried to overthrow him since he really isn't Roberts Child.

Q2- im not sure if i heard old and new gods, i thought he said guards. in any case I'm not completely positive in all of that but that Was Roberts brother Stannis Baratheon. His other (Renly Baratheon) brother ran from kings landing right before Ned stark was beheaded. The two are set to go to war due to the fact that each wants the iron throne since they both already know Joffrey is the son of Cersei and Jaime Lannister

                  Sorry i don't know the 3rd question but i hope i helped a bit

admittedly ive never been a big fiction reader. This is amazing seeing something come to life afterwards. I always thought "why do people read books then watch movies/tv shows?" Stupid me i now see the light.

I like their vision of Craster's Keep althought for i pictured Craster himself being more grotesque. Craster is the answer to your 3rd question Maynard...

                      http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Craster

Once a powerful-looking man, he is nearing the end of his life. His hair is grey turning to white. He has a flat nose and a drooping mouth, which gives him a cruel look and one of his ears is missing, which he has lost to the cold.[1]
Craster was one of the few wildlings not openly hostile to the Night's Watch. Although he showed the Watch no malice and offered sanctuary to those north of the Wall on rangings, he was regarded as a tenuous ally at best. This is due to his incestuous relationships with his daughter-wives and suspicions of kinslaying, sacrificing his male children.[1]

Just occurred to me; did they really need to have two characters named Bronn/Bran? They sound alike with the accent.

i said setup....we didnt need setup for what we already knew about.

thats why i said they introed some new characters but acted like we knew who they were. how was anyone supposed to know they were the bastards? there was no mention of it other than joeffrys conversation with his mom

and the preist chick....there was never any mention of her or any of that non sense prior to this show. i am not reading the books like you guys, so you cant just assume that stuff is known

There was mentioning of it. Ned sought out Roberts bastards in Season 1, even before he knew about Joffrey not being the true heir. I specifically remember the mom talking about how the girl had Roberts eyes, and Ned saying that the girl would never have to want for anything in her life.

I'm not reading the books either, just paying attention to every scene.

The "priestess chick" is Mellisandre, who is introduced in the 2nd book/season so people won't know her, but they kind of introduced her. I was more surprised they didn't do a better job of getting people to know Davos and Stannis, since those two are going to be INCREDIBLY important.

Also, I really think the series should be moving slower if at all possible. I am unsure that Martin will be finished with the 6th and 7th book in time for their seasons. He is notoriously slow.
