Last night I watched a defenseless unsuspecting pregnant woman get stabbed in the stomach. So I have a hard time believing that the guy who says "not today" to the god of death would die off-screen. Especially in an ambiguous manner.

I really can't see the showrunners just deciding to mess essential pieces of the source text, especially since they haven't really done it so far.

Creating composite characters and streamlining the story is one thing... creating new characters and altering the story is another.

I would be absolutely shocked if Syrio wasn't dead. Off screen death or not, in the books he's not important enough (and lives on in Arya anyway), and it's too stupid convenient to make him Jaqun IMO. I feel like for every theory a book reader comes up with, they forget that Martin has like 1 billion characters that seem important and just fade away (Christ, Gendry is a great example).
