Yeah I noticed he didn't name any either. Not to mention plenty of posts in this thread have included non hip hop projects. As for what has been mentioned, I really like Brothers (the mash up with Chico Dusty is amazing btw) but I don't get the Deerhunter hype. Too many meandering songs IMO.Comment

I am a huge rock fan, don't listen to anything else really. As for current rock music, Soundgarden got back together, so there's one. I love the Foo Fighters and they have a new album coming out around March, I believe. Avenged Sevenfold I am a fan of, too. Alice in Chains is still pretty good, even without Layne Staley (shocking, I know).
So there is a couple, but all the bands I listed have been around since the 90's. Thank god Seattle's number one rock station plays mainly 90's music.Comment

I wouldn't call myself a real Black Keys fan cause I've only listened to Brothers.
Other then that, The Dead Weather(Jack White/Alison Mosshart) is the only current rock band I've really listened to in years.

Don't take musical advice from these dorks.
Luke, I agree with you on not getting the Deerhunter hype. I personally think they fucking blow.

Favorite artist/band
LCD Soundsystem, hands down. Released a great album and threw a mind-blowing show at the Hollywood Bowl with Hot Chip and Sleigh Bells.
Most surprising artist/band
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti. Prior to this release, all of Ariel Pink's releases were incredibly lo-fi and frustrated me. With this album, the production has cleaned up and the mist has been wiped from my eyes.
Most disappointing artist/band:
Kele Okereke. This solo stuff just isn't going to work out. Call the rest of the guys from Bloc Party and make another album.
Artist/band that grew on you:
The New Pornographers. My ex-girlfriend is really into this band, so naturally I didn't want to give them a chance. I had very casually listened to Twin Cinema and Challengers a few years ago, but Together really blew me away.
Artist/band you can't see the hype about:
The xx. It's not that I don't like them, but when the remixes of your tracks are more interesting than the originals, that says something.
Favorite album:
To stand in opposition to BigHouseUSA, Romance is Boring by Los Campesinos!. Been a huge fan of them since I saw them play at Emo's in 2007 at SXSW. They may be less "punk" than they used to (term used loosely here), but they're also less twee. I can't think of a record this year that was as noisy and depressing.
Most surprising album:
Total Life Forever by Foals. Already said by others, they allowed their songs to breathe and it made a huge difference.
Most disappointing album:
The Original Soundtrack to Tron: Legacy. It's certainly no fault of their own, but the product failed to meet expectations when I first played Daft Punk's score of the film. I haven't seen the movie and I'm sure it works there, but very little of it stands on its own.
Favorite song: No way.Comment

Favorite artist/band: Keri Hilson (I really diggin her), Kanye West, Trey Songz
Most surprising artist/band: Chrisette Michelle (she's UNDERRATED)
Most disappointing artist/band: Drake (I like his shit but it pisses me off that he tries to sing so much on his shit).
Artist/band that grew on you: Bruno Mars (when i heard him on BOB, I was like this dude is trash...but I like his solo songs better)
Artist/band you can't see the hype about: Wiz Khalifa (like really WTF)
Favorite album: Trey Songz (P,P & P)
Most surprising album: Trey Songz (I thought it was tough to follow up Ready but he did it with an even better follow up)
Most disappointing album: Jamie Foxx (it's ok...not like his last one though IMO)
Favorite song: Kanye West/JL- Blame Game, Keri Hilson- Breaking Point, Trey Songz- Alone, Can't be Friends, love faceOriginally posted by Nick MangoldWes Welker is a great player. He's really taken advantage of watching film. If we don't keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate.Comment
