    Gone Baby Gone [SPOILERS]

For those of you that haven't watched the movie you should probably stop reading right here.

Well not entirely spoilers. If you were put in the same situation as Casey Affleck what would you do? For those of you that have watched the movie you knows what happens at the end.

First off, I watched the movie in the movie theater when it first came out. I went with a date to watch the movie. I always thought it was a good movie and haven't seen it since. Tonight I decide to re watch it. It had the same impact on me the second time as much as the first. If I was put in the same shoes as Casey I would have left the kid with Morgan Freeman. At the end of the movie when Amanda's mother leaves to go on a date and asks Casey to watch the kid, I feel like Casey realizes that he fucked up. Amanda's mother was not going to change, she showed it in the last scene by setting up a date before even having a sitter for Amanda. The kid would have grown up with Morgan Freeman and would have had a much better life.

I decided to put this in the Studio but probably would have had a better response in The Locker Room.

u have to give it to the mom. who is casey to decide tht?

really the right thing would be to have a mediatoir but the way they got the kid and just how things went im sure tht would be impossible.

we many all know what haooens after which biases us, what if morgan freeman wanted the kid to molest?

Im pretty positive that the whole point was that Morgan Freeman was offering her a better life. It wasn't to molest her.

I would have left her with Morgan Freeman. Amanda's mother doesn't deserve to have a kid.

My wife and I had this same discussion after watching it. I think he did the right thing by leaving the girl with her mother. After all that stuff they went through to find her, you had to give the mother another chance. Yeah it was fucked up when he realize it was the wrong decision but it was the right the decision.

I also think that's what made the movie so good is that it didn't end the way everyone wanted it to.

This is one of my fav movies of all time now and the face he made when he was being questioned by the police was priceless!!!

One of my favorite movies of all-time. I'm not sure what I'd do in that situation. I feel as though I'd feel the same way as Kenzie in the sense that I wouldn't be able to stand the thought of the child questioning the decision in the future.

I understand your point, but I struggle with this. Not sure which way I would've gone. My first inclination would be to leave her with Freeman but the fact remains, it's not his kid and he got her in an underhanded manner no matter what his intentions. On the other hand, whether I think the mother deserves to have her or not, the child is her's. Who am I to decide she shouldn't have her. Either way it's a decision that would cause lots of tossing and turning at night. And yes, because we can have this debate makes it a great movie.

This is one of my favorite movies also and I felt like Casey did the right thing, no matter how wrong it may seem. My wife felt that she would have backed out of the driveway and left her with Freeman but it just wasn't right IMO. I know the movie didn't go further into it but I think that Casey became an important part of the little girls life from that point forward, at least I hope he would have? Poor little girl was screwed.

                  btw- The mom's best friend in the movie was from Boston, she let her life turn into the role she played in the movie;

I don't believe so, but I haven't seen The Fighter yet. I doubt it though, she looks to meth'ed out but most people from Lowell do too.

It's not his place to say, nor was it the place of Freeman's character. Give the kid back. No point in trying to play God.

As Dell said, Freeman's character stole that child in an underhanded manner. No matter his intentions, that's not his rightful kid.

I'm pretty sure the people I saw it with disagreed with me. Great source of debate and a very good film.

Yes she was, I just caught The Fighter this past weekend. She was one of Mickeys 15 sisters that didn't do much of anything but follow their Mom around, lol. Great movie btw.

After watching the movie I agreed with his decision in the end, and after reading these posts I don't think I have changed my mind any. People like Morgan freeman's should not be allowed to be above the law no matter what his intent was.

Agreed...and let's not forget the potential for a slippery slope here. How do you define good parenting and when do you stop stealing kids from their birth parents to give them a "better life"?
