The Seventh Seal - Another classic foreign film. I don't know how accurate this comparison is, but it reminds me a lot of the excerpts that I've read of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. We follow a knight on his journey home from the Crusades who is confronted by Death. An overall serious movie interspersed with good comedic and relatively vulgar scenes.

I saw Zombieland last night.
Now, while I think it was a good, fun movie...I didn't think it quite lived up to the lofty reviews.Comment

Murray lost to Sean Penn. He was the heavy favorite, a ''sure thing,'' so I decided to break my rule, and watch it, because I fucking love Bill Murray. That was it for me.
Mickey Rourke had no chance - he deserved it, we all knew it, and so did they. But they couldn't take the chance, even with delay. Especially with his speech nights before, which in my opinion, is the greatest acceptance speech I've ever heard. They're cowards.
Do yourself a favor, if you enjoyed ''The Wrestler,'' see ''Crazy Heart'' asap. It's nice to see some of these old timers, showing these fuckers today, how it's done.
To me, it really was a 1A and 1B last year but I would have given it to Rourke because I felt he deserved it more.Comment

A Single Man - *** stars.
Another story about a man who loses the love of his life and the steps he takes to cope.Comment

Moon was excellent for a low budget film, Rockwell was spectacular. I couldn't help but feel this would be the perfect role for Edward Norton though.Comment

Rourke should have won, but I am unsure if I can blame the Academy for voting Penn because of Rourke's potential behavior. Milk was good Oscar fodder and the role Sean Penn had as Harvey Milk was done fantastically.

Now, whether or not that should determine who the award goes to is a separate topic, but it must be noted. Rourke was fantastic, as was Penn, but Penn faced a tougher challenge in attempting to play a homo. That said, I'm not sure Penn simply deserves more credit because he had to play a homo, because it definitely does not automatically mean that he did a better job.
Considering 90% of hollywood is gay, though, can't see how anyone expected anybody to beat Penn that year.Last edited by Tailback U; 02-18-2010, 10:27 PM.Comment
