It has Minnie Driver which is definatly a big fat negative, but Dan Akroyd, Hank Azaria, a pre-Entourage Jeremy Piven, Alan Arkin and even Cusack in the main role all put in tight performances and all bring the lulz in their own ways.
Tried too hard to be a real movie and it was not enough funny for me to think much of. If you have a girlfriend and are struggling to pick a movie this isn't a bad pick, but other than that, go with something else.
Oscar fodder gone incredibly wrong. Obvious set up to get Swank in line for a Best Actress nomination falls absolutely flat. It is basically showing her accomplishments and nothing more. No insight into Amelia the person or her life or how her life was important to the woman's movement...nada. Simply an on-air chronicle of her aviation accomplishments.
I watched Law Abiding Citizen, and I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't do it considering the sh!t ending and terrible cast (again, I really wanted to like Gerard Butler here and was very sympathetic to his cause)...
If this had a better script and cast, it'd be a good flick...the concept is good.
I thought the cast was fine...that script on the other hand - not so much.
The set pieces, the camera work and DiCaprio's acting make the movie.
The only downside is:
DON'T CLICK IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT
The handholding they do at the end of the film.
If you didn't catch the obvious clues pointing out that DiCaprio's character is a nutjob, they put that shit on a fucking dry erase board.
I understand that the generation coming in to see these films were force-fed bullshit with Lohan and Duff in it but I would hope movie studios would take notice that most moviegoers can put 2 and 2 together.
Sir Ben Kingsley as "Sir Ben Kingsley" playing the role of Head Psychiatrist was cool as was seeing Ruffalo getting some work in.
Me and my girlfriend were thoroughly disappointed. It started out interesting, with some interesting bits of "humor" but by about 45 minutes in we wanted it to end, it continued to drag on for another hour without much progression. It wasn't particularly funny or interesting.
