I can't speak for your tastes, but I was glued to the screen. Obviously there's no action, but the performances are superb and it is a genuinely funny film.
It's still a drama, of course, but there are lots of light moments sprinkled in.
True Grit: 9.1/10 - I haven't seen a lot of Westerns, nor do I really know how to go about judging one, but all of the essential Coen Brothers' elements that make their films so rich were present. The acting was absolutely top-notch, thanks in large part to Hailee Steinfield, whose casting could have made or broke the film. Bridges was outstanding and, in my opinion, deserves another Best Actor nomination, as was Damon and Brolin in lesser roles. The cinematography was gorgeous and the Coen's trademark humor amidst a serious matter really brought the characters to life and acted as a driving force in parts that could otherwise be seen as filler. It continues to amaze me just how well the Coen's are at piecing together their work.
The Fighter: 9.5/10 - A truly excellent movie, not so much about fighting as it is about family and just how boxing has acted both as the family's way of ignoring their problems through the unity that comes with the sport and highlighting their problems as they're eager to get back on the map, to attain glory left in the past. The Fighter may just be the best cast assembled this year as not only do both Bale and Adams have nominations coming their way, but also their performances overshadow Wahlberg who is also at the top of his game.
Kick-Ass - Didn't think it was as good as people hyped it up to be, but it was definitely entertaining. Any movie not name National Treasure should quit using Mr. Cage to act in it though.
Jenny Agutter was so hot in the day. I wish women would just stop aging at 30. Sure, there are some freaks, but for the most part, it's painful to watch a movie like Logan's Run then see her today.
The movie itself is now a bit dated, but I've always loved it.
Random question - what's your favorite random movie that won't be in anyone's top 10 list?
Mine is Midnight Run. Classic 80s buddy comedy, and DeNiro is great.
Kudos on the question. I honestly can't think of one at the moment.
I loved Jane March in The Lover, but the love of that movie had little to do with the plot.
saw little fokkers last night. hopefully its the last one. wasnt that funny, i mean it had its moments but it was rather blah. what you saw in the trailers was pretty much the funny stuff.
someone needs to do a gritty mob drama with deniro as a mob boss, so i can forget about him in this movie. 4 out of 10
