I really only listen to metal when I'm running/warming up for a game, but here's a few ones that I like:

Usually not my type of music and I've only heard the album this song was on, but I enjoyed it very much

I was into Metallica, Iron Maiden,Gwar, Megadeth things like that when i was younger, so im interested in some newer bands in this thread . You guys have posted some good stuff in here, im not down with the cookie monster voice that so many bands rely on though.
So am i shit outta luck when it comes to modern metal?

You might be more into Hard Rock which includes things like

                      Stone Sour:

                      [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5YYYULCZtY[/ame]

                      [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEn-nTkbEM0[/ame]

                      Avenged Sevenfold:

and other bands like Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch ect ect.

You could move into some slipknot songs like:

                      [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fVE8kSM43I[/ame]

                      [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_09wFxoaeQ[/ame]

I can't think of much more now because I'm kinda enraged the faggot sharks just beat the wings

                      Leafs offseason training!

From one of the albums that brings something new every time I listen to it (and opened doors to other artists as well.) I really hope its true about a new RATM album as well.

Can anyone think of a better song to open an album with?

One of the few songs that I think sounds better live than the album version- What Drives The Weak by Shadows Fall. I have the Madness in Manilla live album, and there is something that makes it better live.

There are some bands who use clean vocals. I don't know a lot of them, but here is one band that I've checked out and enjoyed. I've only heard their album "The Godless Endeavor", but I liked it a lot.
