The essence of the comic is still there, regardless of what they changed for TV. Reading interviews with Darabont, he has said that all the major set pieces will still be there (the prison, the first town they go to, the Governor, etc) but the way they arrive at those scenes may be slightly different

Awesome first episode. I already knew I'd like it. Its weird seeing all the characters on screen, the guy they got playing Rick is good actor which will go a long way, especially later on.

I think the comics have been out for about 7 years now. The guy releases them monthly and I believe there are close to 80 issues out. You can buy books of them or something like that or just find them on the internet.

It's been a long time since I've read a comic book but I might have to check this series out......haven't picked one up since back in the days when Green Goblin helped cause Gwen Stacy's death

They have a Compendium out which is Book 1-72. Theres 79 books out now I think

So is this another AMC classic in the making? With all the great reviews I've heard I may have to give it a go. It won't top Breaking Bad though...granted that's a completely different type of show.

For the record, this show got a 5.3 rating with a 3.3 in the 18-49 range. In comparison Mad Men and Breaking Bad get around a 0.9. So yeah, this show is a hit. I'm not surprised at all because everyone loves zombies and the survival situation that goes along with it.

And to be honest, the first season is going to pale in comparison to what will be going on in the second season. Lets just say, if they plan the seasons like I think they will, the second season will be insane.

It was still the highest rating of any cable premiere this season. I'm not expecting it to keep up those numbers for every episode but it would be pretty reasonable for it to stay in the 1-2 range.
