Shows got sky high ratings, and sky high critical reviews.
Happy it is successful, I have friends who work on the crew. Hope it stays on the air for a long time.
High ratings do not equal high quality however. And, as these things are subjective, I disagree with any favorable reviews. Show is "meh" ... in my subjective opinion of course.
Last episode was pretty toned down, but to be expected after the amount of hell that broke loose two episodes ago. But next week is shaping up to be real good.
Now we debate for a week about who's on the other end of the phone...
They covered a lot in this episode tho, Governors daughter and zombie cock fighting* stood out.
Yep, another good one.
Rick going pyscho, lol. Darryl throwing shitty names out at the baby, lol.
The Governor's obsession with keeping his zombie-daughter alive is intriguing. Is he batshit crazy or just hopeful his experimenting scientist dude can come up with a way to reverse zombiehood....
Them bringing up pro wrestling surviving a zombie apocalypse had me rolling.
Now that they're pretty much settled in the prison and the folks in the faux-town....wonder how they go about mixing them up somewhere along the line this season.

yep, this is lowest common denominator entertainment...but thats what paying for tv has done.
Like i said, its popular in the way a car accident is popular. This is not quality tv/entertainment..its just entertainment.
AV Club made a solid point in their review this week - This show and its characters have nothing interesting to offer besides existing in their situation.

Aside from the Governor, all the conflicted characters have been killed off.

One of my biggest issues with season 1 was how poorly drawn the characters are. They are all two-dimensional stereotypes, with a few exceptions. As I joked once, it was the token gay guy away from being a Real World house.
Rick is an interesting character and will only continue to get more interesting. If they handle Carl correctly, he gets pretty interesting too. However, I do agree that they haven't fleshed out some of the characters enough. The article complains specifically about Michonne but thats sort of how she is in the comics at first and how she is supposed to be, distant.
I watch this show first and foremost because it revolves around zombies and survival. Thats why most people watch it. Its hard to have a reference point for how people might behave in this situation. For example, when you've got a show like Boardwalk, you've got a time period that has obviously already happened about and a wealth of material to go off of when creating characters and plots. I checked out the review and they stated a lack of personal goals for a lot of the characters. What goals are they supposed to have? The only reason they're together is to survive, thats it.
One thing I'm looking forward to is how Daryl handles Merle still being alive and likely wanting to kill Rick.
