Josh Pence, who played opposite Armie Hammer as Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network (where Hammer's face was superimposed on his), has been cast as a young Ra's Al Ghul in Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan's new Batman movie.

The movie's casting has been ultra-secret, although Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman are returning to lead a caped crusading cast, which includes Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard.

The story line has also been kept locked up in the Batcave but Pence's casting throws more than a few crumbs to follow. Ra's Al Ghul was played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins, thus paving the way for a possible return of the supposedly dead character. Also, while the studio never confirmed Cotillard's character, it has been rumored to be that of Thalia Al Ghul, the daughter of Batman's mentor-turned-enemy.

Sources say Pence will appear in scenes that take place 30 years prior to the present story.

Pence, repped by Innovative Artists and Industry Entertainment, recently wrapped Battleship, Universal's big-budget action movie based on the board game, and indie political thriller The Algerian.

A trio of actors is lining up to take small parts in "The Dark Knight Rises," including “Rescue Me” star Daniel Sunjata, Variety's Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) exclusively reports. Sunjata (above left) is in early talks to play a special forces operative, while Diego Klattenhoff (above, center) has been offered the part of a rookie cop. And character actor Burn Gorman (“Layer Cake,” above right) is also being eyed for a supporting role. Warner Bros. will release TDKR on July 20, 2012. More on these actors at Variety.com

Apparently the key to bringing The Dark Knight Rises to Pittsburgh was the city is willing to let Nolan blow up the Civic Arena.
Many fine folks have come out of the woodwork to accept accolades for being instrumental in bringing the final installment of the Batman Trilogy to Pittsburgh. There are rumors circulating, however, no one person is responsible. A building is. The ability to explode the Civic Arena and use the footage for a key scene in the movie may have been the key bargaining chip that brought The Dark Knight Rises to Pittsburgh. A series of deals, behind closed doors, between The Pittsburgh Film Office (PFO), Governor Tom Corbett and the Sports and Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh (SEA) may have sealed the deal and brought win-win situations to all parties involved.

would be awesome, would top the hospital explosion, and just about every explosion in TDK

but I still hope they film in Chicago, atleast for most exteriors, especially that one parking garage seen in the first two movies.

Mayor of Gotham returns to 'Dark Knight' - Entertainment News, Film News, Media - Variety

Mayor coming back, they kind of left him after the evacuation of the city. Another person I wonder if he is coming back is Gordons right hand man, the one who was locked up with the Joker, he appeared at the end when Gordon shattered the searchlight.

yea, so many people thought she was gonna be Talia, and JGL as a villain, but for awhile, it was rumored he would probably be on the Gotham Police Force

                            Anyways more news:
Horror makeup and special effects legend Tom Savini interviewed this past weekend for "The Dark Knight Rises" aka "Batman 3." This news is bound to have both horror fans and comic book fans salivating for weeks until the official announcement is made as to Savini's participation in the movie. Could the new Batman movie bring the Godfather of Gore out of retirement?

I covered the Motor City Nightmares horror convention and film festival this weekend outside of Detroit. Tom Savini was scheduled to be one of the guests of honor. On Friday, Tom contacted the organizers of the convention to say that he had to cancel as he was going to be interviewing for "The Dark Knight Rises," and that he had a good chance of "Getting it." This had some of the insiders at the convention raising questions as to Savini's potential capacity in the movie.

Savini is considered to be in retirement from makeup and special effects. He has been focusing his time running his special effects and makeup school along with acting and directing. A movie with the potential (if not guaranteed) draw of "The Dark Knight Rises" might bring the master known for "Dawn of the Dead," "Friday the 13th," and "Creepshow" out of retirement. The thought of a return for Savini will have many fans losing sleep.

It could be that there are other aspects of the film that he interviewed for, though. As he is in his 60s, I would doubt that he would be entering an interview for stunt work. Since he did not say that he was "reading" for Batman, my guess is that he would not be going for an acting part. Since the director has already been sealed, I would not expect Savini to be used in that capacity. Since he stated on the phone that he might "Get it" I would be under the assumption that he would be leading the makeup and special effects, not his company.

Due to his body of work, Savini is considered as a legend in the horror movie industry. His past as a photographer in Vietnam gave him exposure to dead bodies that the average makeup and special effect people would not. He brought this experience with him on set and progressed movie magic to a level that it had never been. Due to the fact that he focused on realism in his work, he was given the nickname of the "Godfather of Gore." He knew that death was ugly and sometimes very messy and this showed in his work.
