I won't watch any of it, or care, if that is the case.

However, Disney has the ability to do good work. If they do follow through with making Episodes VII, VIII, and IX then they will have the opportunity to make them more like the Pirates movies and have them be PG-13 and watchable by adults. Especially if they follow the Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy (easily the best work to come out of the Expanded Universe). If they follow that story arc, then they can "save" Star Wars in my eyes.
The Thrawn trilogy is the likely starting point, because you introduce the New Republic and some main characters for down the road. I think you would lose far too many people if you started later. I know people want to see the original actors, but do they still want to do it? And there is also a reason that Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill have done next to nothing the past few years, so people need to be careful for what they wish for.

Another point as well, is that the video games have been horrible lately. You've gone from the X-Wing and Dark Forces series to games about the Clone Wars TV show and The Force Unleashed. I hope they can turn that around to, but like you said, it doesn't hurt me and it will only get better or continue to be disinteresting to me.

The last thing I want is to use the same actors. That sounds like a George Lucas style edict that is destined for failure. Fresh faces. If it can be done with James Bond, Batman, Spider-man, The Hulk, Captain Kirk, Spock, etc. then it can be done with Luke Skywalker and company.

Y'all really thought highly enough of that Avengers flick to endorse Joss Whedon for direction? I mean, Star Wars isn't The Godfather, but I think it deserves a little more thought behind it than what was shown there. Idk. Like has been said, it can't be worse than the prequels.

First of all, the Avengers was great.

Secondly, if you think The Avengers is the only reason people love Joss (or even the primary reason), you are gravely mistaken.

Fans were thrown into a frenzy this week when news emerged that Disney had purchased George Lucas’s famed Lucasfilm for more than $4 billion, along with the announcement that audiences will not only get a seventh episode of “Star Wars,” but an entire new trilogy.

Here is what Hollywood has to say about casting the movie. Zac Efron as Luke? Ryan Gosling as Han Solo?

Apparently it will be a stand alone story, and not based on anything else. Considering how the EU has played out, is there any room in canon for a new story? There will be a lot of pissed off people if Disney decides to change canon, or make levels of canon and make the novels and comics irrelevant to the franchise.

I think going in a different direction is best. The series wont have to be tied around the Skywalkers anymore.

Was not a fan of The Avengers.

And you could easily set it 10 years in the future and just pick different actors saying they've aged.

Would definitely look forward to some more Star Wars.

The Avengers was an exciting popcorn flick with average writing. It wasn't that great.

I never watched Buffy or Firefly or Serenity, so I'm going off what I've seen, his sole directing credit in the last six years besides the Shakespeare movie, which I also haven't seen. Why don't y'all just enlighten me as to why he's so great?

Edit: Just re-read, clearly he wasn't. Carry on.

Watch Firefly, Serenity, Buffy, Dr. Horrible (Joss even co-wrote Toy Story )

and I actually thought the writing of The Avengers was perfect for a comic book movie
