Dell, have you heard of the site Flickchart.com ? It ranks movies based on head to head battles you choose the winner of. It's consumed a lot of my time and it definitely produces some cool lists.

edit: Just for shits and giggles, after 2360 match ups with 382 movies, my top 50 looks like this:

    1. Donnie Darko
    2. the Matrix
    3. Boogie Nights
    4. Snatch.
    5. Knocked Up
    6. Dead Poets Society
    7. Iron Man
    8. Chinatown
    9. LotR: TT
    10. the Wrestler

Awesome Palooza...although I'm afraid to do it, for the reasons you're frowning over. If Fight Club landed at 109 (or Memento at 36 for that matter) for me, I don't know how I would continue on...

I can't stop doing it because I somehow think that if I keep doing it, someday my list will be 100% accurate.

The thing that sucks is the quality of the match ups. I just had a match up of the Others vs. Stranger than Fiction followed by Superbad vs. Sin City.

Fight Club has come up maybe 3 times for me, and its obviously the only movie I'd pick over any movie that came up, except it had some piss poor match ups. Same thing with Donnie Darko at #1. I liked it better than Boogie Nights, so it went to #1, but it hasn't seen a respectable opponent since.

It's not like the list is about the best movies ever, its about which I like better. The list is actually more accurate than it is inaccurate. I'd say of my top 150, maybe 10 or so movies don't really belong, even though they should be in a different order.

Hey Dell, you should do a list, top ten movies that make you feel smarter after watching them (excluding documentaries)

Knocked UP shouldnt be close to anyones favorite movies otherwise you havent seen a lot of movies. The movie was good but it was def not a rewatchable movie in terms of its laughs.

What aren't you understanding? You can only answer based on what they give you. If they give you Knocked up 40 times and every time it's against something like Death Race, Knocked Up is inevitably going to climb in your rankings.

Hence why Palooza's favorite movie ever is all the way down at 109.

I just got ball-busted by having to choose between the Big Lebowski and the Dark Knight. Yikes. Anyway, sorry to get OT Dell.

How am I supposed to choose between The Mask and X-Men?!?!?!? It's like choosing which childhood friend to betray.

Although it's kind of cheating, if you go to your full list you can rank any movie by having it compare it to movies ranked higher than it automatically.

good find. I may or may not use it, haven't decided yet.

Contemplating making my own thread about the unnecessary amount of shit I watch and post my list every here and there since I do this so god damn much.

edit: Sorry for taking over your thread, for a bit, Dell.

Dell, I went out and rented Star Trek. And I have to say after watching it a second, and third time. I was overwhelmed, I think of the "awesomeness" of seeing it in Theater. Watching it at home wasn't the same "magic" I felt seeing it in theater. So after a revaluation of the movie, I'd lean more towards your rating, or perhaps even a little lower.

i watched there will be blood. I was very disapointed with this movie. I watched it over 2 nights and during the first half i thought it was an interesting movie. One of those slow moving plots where things are just happening randomly to maybe setup what this "evil oil man" was really about.

then i watched the 2nd half and realized that this movie had no real point. It was just a story about an oil man. He wasnt an "evil oil man" but more of a hardnose businessman who was kind of a dick towards certain people. The title of the movie and all of the intesnse horror film music would suggest that something grusome or shocking would happen during the course of this movie.....and while i was fooled thinking it was coming, it just never did. By the time somthing even close to offering a dramtic or shocking moment did come, i was totally annoyed with the muscial score and even more annoyed that i was suckered into watchng this movie, that i didnt care and was glad it was over

this movie ranks up there with the talented mr ripley in all time let downs for me
