            Damn that sucks.

Going to have to watch some of The Sopranos tonight in his honor.

Truly sad but I can't say that I'm surprised at all because he always took the deepest breaths in every role he's been in. Always sounded like breathing was a struggle for him. May not have anything whatsoever to do with it but he obviously wasn't all that healthy.

RIP...one of my favorite actors of all time.

Tony Soprano was such a great character, perfectly written, and of course perfectly acted. Tony was a sociopath, but Gandolfini was able to humanize him and make him so likable, that the viewer would end up being twice as disgusted when Tony would fuck them over time & time again by doing something heinous. Deep down Tony was a good guy, who wanted to do the right things, but had a warped sense of values and a fucked up upbringing that turned him into a bi polar mess. At the end of the day, he really was just a guy who wanted to do the best he could for his friends & family and protect his kids. He was just flawed (and insecure) as fuck and was doomed from the start.

Possibly the greatest character, with the most depth, in television history.

TV's most iconic anti-hero, and a role that influenced dozens of classic dramas. Shit, a role that influenced the next decade of television writing, really. No small feat, pretty damn legendary role.

Anyway the only other thing I know about him is a story I heard a few years back which I've already told once in the shoutbox -- he once blew off a speaking engagement during Tulane's graduation week because he was face down in some sorority trim for 5-6 hours.

Agreed. So young, but really such a great character on The Sopranos. Feels like someone you know died, especially when you watched that one character for years.

Damn, thats tragic. Now I will have to sit down and start the Sopranos.

I really enjoyed Crimson Tide, The Last Castle, and Surviving Christmas. Some of my favorites.
