I don't think so. Spider-man is just an action hero now, and since he's been transformed into so many different characters, even within the span of a decade, it's fair that Spider-man doesn't really fit a specific mold outside of "smart orphan with superpowers."
Iron Man, as he's been made by Favreau and Downey, embodies many many more iconic intangibles, IMHO, so I don't think you're off.
However, I'll point this one out: I work at a fitness club that is geared towards families so now that it's summer all the kids are coming in for swim lessons, etc. The two most common "character" swim clothes little kids wear (at least the boys) are Lightning McQueen from Cars and Spider-man. I've never seen a kid come in geared out in Iron Man stuff, excepting maybe two or three with Avengers board shorts or shirts.
