The Porsche that actor Paul Walker was riding in when he died on Saturday was traveling at approximately 40 to 45 mph when it came to a bend in the road where the speed limit drops to about 15 mph, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation told NBC News on Monday. It was in that vicinity where the driver, Roger Rodas, apparently lost control of the vehicle, ending in the fiery so

Well, clearly these law enforcement people haven't spoken to some of the guys here at VSN. Accidents like this cannot happen at 40-45 mph, only at 100-120mph. They haven't been informed by the VSN car elite that when you travel at a slower speed it all but rules out high levels of damage AND completely random events (mechanical failures, deer acting on disregard for humans).

Another potential cause I have read is there may have been a tire blowout. The tires on the CGT have been known to be less than stellar, with a weak sidewall and prone to early dry rot/breakdown.

It has to do with my main point being: Non car people have their own agendas and beliefs, which are usually completely wrong because they are ignorant and/or disinterested in the topic, in addition to having no real education on how a car works or how to control one. It's like me giving rash opinions and analysis on the electrician who severely burned or electrocuted them self (He must have been screwing off or a shitty electrician because he got hurt/died!!)

They were still going 3 times the posted speed limit (15mph) for the turn

            Doesn't matter...

Laws of the road and physics do not apply to true automotive men.

Speed limits do not correlate at all to the current performance standards of the modern automobile. They are a safety standard calculated based on an efficient volume of throughput of the area during normal traffic flow in addition to environmental factors such as keeping noise low, reducing tire wear, and controlling emissions. Even with an apex of 90deg., an average performance car (I'll say a 4 cylinder Ford Focus ST off the top of my head) could handle a turn at 40-45 mph when taking the most efficient line. In fact, at 40-45mph one would be on the edge of even being able to pull the handbrake and initiate a drift around the corner (in the event one was really trying to be an idiot showoff) as speed would be too low to follow through and exit. He also worked right down the road, so one cannot argue he was unfamiliar with the area and driving it.

IMO, they were cruising around the corner as no one else was on the roadway at that time, and either the power steering line burst or a tire went. Either would be completely uncontrollable at any speed and either would have gone due to premature failure or defect as the car had less than 3k miles on it and can easily hold that speed and G's. This would also explain the lack of skid marks until closer to the cars final resting place (when they tried to avoid light/tree).

With that said, I'll fully expect all of you on your way to/from your homes today to ensure you're doing that 15mph on the on/off ramps or the 35mph on that gentle curve placed on the 55-60mph roadway........

I'm still trying to figure out what a "Non-automotive guy" is. A Decepticon?

For lack of a better term: a guy who has no knowledge of autos and/or lacks the interest in autos and/or driving. One who takes no joy in some spirited driving now and then (which may include listening to his favorite tunes) and strictly sees the auto as a mechanical device to get them from point A to point B. They never clean the interior or exterior until it reaches levels forbidden by the CDC. They generally drive a piece of shit, or a cheaply made car and claim it is as good as any other made. Often known to get ass raped at the dealership with high repair costs, which they then turn around and complain about and use as more fuel as to why autos are stupid to care about.

To me, it is on the list of one potential case where the Man Card can be pulled.

It falls right next to being a Miami Dolphins fan on that list.
