This was like 70% of a great movie. Everything with Cranston and up to the point with the reveal that it was a "Godzilla vs." movie was awesome. Then, the fight scenes...probably the best BIG THINGS FIGHTING scenes ever. Really well shot and very cool. I wanted more, though. They got very cute with going to cut scenes and then using different perspectives to show the lead up to the payoff.

But there was a chunk of about 30 minutes smack dab in the middle of the film that nearly put me down. I never fall asleep in the theatres...but that 30m chunk did a number on me and nearly had me down for the count. It was just straight up boring.

Also, a few too many cliches in there. I know Brody is supposed to be a good dude...I don't need unnecessary kid scenes. I could have done without the human element too...they just get in the way in a film like this. And then the totally cliche "Don't use nukes!"..."But we have to, I'm trying to protect people and its all we got!"..."Oh shit, shouldn't have done that...lets get the nuke out of there!"...gross. The definition of Cinema Sin.

Man, I struggled with this. The good...was great. The bad was coma-inducing. I'd give it like a 7? 6.5? Mild recommendation, if, for nothing, the awesome fight scene(s).

I revisited Cloverfield last night...Cloverfield is better in every way outside of the "cool" factor that was Godzilla doing Godzilla things.
I agree .. and I'm glad I'm not the only one who was kind of dozing off in the middle there.

BUT considering I was expecting it to be really, really corny.. and it was actually quite entertaining.. I bump it up to a 7.5 despite that middle lull.

That final act lit a fire inside of me and scorched all of the complaints I had throughout. Larry does a good job of explaining the problems, but I still really really liked it. The reveal was dope as hell and not something I had any idea of prior. It was a lot of good, clean fun, but I'm curious as to how it will hold up on multiple viewings.

        Saw it today.

Basically it came down to being what Godzilla '98 should have been.

I thought for a minute that that might have been it for our intrepid Hero-Lizard.

Then I saw the familiar blue glow of the 'Zilla Spine Plates and knew it was on.

Also glad that the directors/producers kept with the idea that Godzilla's Atomic Breath = Insta-Kill Move.

I don't get the decision to kill off great actors like Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche for Elizabeth Olsen(respect) and random guy.

              When Juliette died I

When the family reunited at the end I "Who cares?"

I was expecting this to be a bit boring until Godzilla showed up, then the quality would pick up. Oddly enough it did the opposite.

Was a tad bit disappointed at how shrouded the final fight was. However when Godzilla stood up in the dust and that piano note hit the score twice

I actually like how they killed off Cranston early, it was unexpected. Going to see a Godzilla movie I assumed everything would be predictable, but this wasn't the case.

From what I've seen online, it looks like Mothra will be facing off against Godzilla in the sequel. And I noticed a couple of Mothra 'easter eggs' in the film.

The same reports have Mecha-Godzilla for the third film. I'd rather see King Ghidorah.

                          No they are original monsters.

Cranston was easily the best actor in this... maybe ever.. every scene he was in just drew you in.. damn.

You see the word 'Mothra' at several points during the film - on the side of a fish tank and on a blackboard. That would be something, watching Godzilla and Mothra duking it out. In the Toho films, she actually beat him twice.

I thought Godzilla 2014 was well done. It shits on that crapfest from '98. My only beef is Godzilla was portrayed differently in this movie than he was in the trailer. I don't like the 'defender of humanity' angle. I prefer the 'destroyer' role, which he was in his original film, killing mfers left and right, and poisonong them with radiation.

DVD comes out in November - I'll be picking that bad boy up.

I thought it was alright. I think I tricked myself into thinking this would be a great movie when I'm not really into movies about monsters.

Graphics were great and the fight scene at the end was awesome but the rest bored me. I found myself sitting there thinking, "I really don't care about this movie at all," and "this is a really stupid story." But again, not sure what the hell I was expecting for a movie about Godzilla.

Everything with Cranston was fantastic , the end fight was awesome. But all the other stuff in the middle was just blah. I also found myself not caring once Cranstons character was gone
