Going to see Future of the Left for the fourth time tonight.
I saw the penultimate show of the classic lineup earlier this year and now I'm going to what I believe is the second show for the new lineup.
Can't wait, new dawn and all that.Z(u, w) = Z0(w)[1-exp{-b(w)u}]

Saw U2 with Jay-Z opening 2 weeks ago.
Jay-Z sucked hard, both in his set and when he came on stage during U2's set to ruin Sunday Bloody Sunday and the song after it.
U2 were good performance wise, setlist was lame though (No New Year's Day, No Bullet in the Blue Sky, bunch of shitty songs from the previous 2 albums and some crappy song which they literally hadn't played since 1981... for good reason).
The whole Claw stage wasn't as great as it was hyped up to be. Then again they only charged NZ$39.95 for tickets (Comparison wise the last big bands who came to NZ I went to, Nine Inch Nails and Pearl Jam cost me 90 dollars and 130 dollars)
Seeing Gorillaz on the 21st so hopefully they won't be such a disappointment.
Muse can go die in a fire, they are currently touring Australia and are apparently playing Dead Star and Sunburn again now, but are skipping New Zealand entirely.Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your ChairComment

I found these guys on Waffles a couple months back as a free release and really liked their sound. I don't know anything about them thoughComment

At first listen it is almost impossible to differentiate between Mclusky and Future of the Left mainly because both bands are dominated by singer/guitarist Andrew 'Falco' Falkous' unique songwriting and singing style and also because initially it just looked like Mclusky had replaced bassist Jon Chapple with Jarcrew's Kelson Matthias. To avoid this they refused, apart from very rare occasions, to play any Mclusky songs live.
Two brilliant albums followed 'Curses' in 2007 and 'Travels With Myself and Another' which was my album of the year in 2009. Live shows were known not only for their musical intensity but for the almost stand-up comedy style banter between Falco, Kelson and the audience.
Kelson left the band early this year after extensive touring and joined up with most of the members of Jarcrew in their new band Truckers of Husk (who are also worth a listen). Being almost impossible to replace with one person the band added a second guitarist, Jimmy Watkins, to handle the singing, jumping around and bantering and former Million Dead bassist Julia Ruzicka to wrestle with the monster bass sound, and providing something more pleasant to look at than the usual collection of hairy, sweating men.
New album and probably more extensive touring, including North America, to come next year.
If you like FOTL then you should definitely give Mclusky a listen especially the album 'Mclusky Do Dallas'. And keep an eye on the live dates.
Edit: and just as I was writing this I got sent this nice little Jarcrew/Truckers of Husk article.

The San Antonio music scene got much cooler last night. The Stanton Moore Trio played a local dive bar with Anders Osbourne. For those that don't know who Stanton is, he's the drummer for Galactic and widely regarded as the best drummer in the entire jam band scene and Anders Osbourne is an incredible blues musician. Both are NOLA legends. Here's a sample of their sound from an earlier show in San Fran-

Death Cab for Cutie on May 25, tickets go on sale tomorrow for Black Keys in June. This is turning in to one of the best live music summers ever.
Pixies are playing here too, but at the super fancy concert hall, thus tickets were $90. Might try and score some for cheapComment
