Didn't they mostly just let Marvel do their own thing? I didn't really ever equate Marvel's success with Disney.

As for the old movies, I'm just never going to disagree. Nostalgia or whatever, I can watch IV and V anytime and absolutely love them. That and Abrams irritates me more than I enjoy his shit (I can only imagine the abundance of lens flare that he's masturbating over using).

I do, but Lucas ran the franchise into the ground. In the 90's and early 2000's, you had a great thing going with lots of EU novels and comic books. Video games like Dark Forces, X-Wing/TIE Fighter, Rogue Squadron and Battlefront were released and well-received by critics. Then it went to the Prequels and the Clone Wars cartoon show, Kinect and Wii Games and the Force Unleashed which was a mixed bag, and that's being kind to it.

The franchise really has nowhere to go but up right now, and I think anything done to it now is going to be better than what we've seen from the past five years. However, cutting out the EU is not a smart decision in my mind, but it's not like Marvel or any of the other superhero movies have really been about past stories, only characters from them, so even then I understand the decision.

I just never really got into Star Wars and the love its received. The geek culture stuff is so hit and miss with me. I didn't hate the prequels as much as everyone else but didnt love the original 3 nearly as much. I think the series as a whole ended rather lame with toy bears saving the day.

Star Wars is geek culture 101, but oddly there's nothing geeky about the films.

But back then, brilliant marketing strategy. It was also a piece that involves Lucas' viewpoints on politics and social issues, like the prequels were. Hopefully we no longer have any of that.

If Andy Serkis is made to be annoying, Star Wars will be dead forever in my eyes.

how old are you, cause imo that honestly has a lot to do with how much you love star wars. i remember being 5 years old and going to return of the jedi in 83. i'm pretty sure it was the first time i got a boner.

being around for the OT when it was first released i believe changes your views on the movies.

you either didn't like them or it was the greatest thing you'd seen in your life

I remember how excited I was seeing Star Wars on the big screen back in 1977. Then Empire came out, which was even better. But the franchise jumped the shark with Return of the Care Bears and hasn't been the same since.

While production just began on “Star Wars: Episode VII,” Disney and Lucasfilm are already focusing on Episode VIII. Sources tell Variety that “Looper” director Rian Johnson is in talks to write and direct the next film in the popular series.
