One source told Ed Price of MLB Fanhouse that "the Phillies are leaders at this point" in the Roy Halladay sweepstakes. However, that doesn't mean the Jays ace will be dealt. As another source points out, J.P. Ricciardi is not in a hurry to trade Halladay, so there's an equal chance he stays in Toronto.
And the haul Halladay could bring? The Erik Bedard trade (Adam Jones, George Sherrill and others) and the Dan Haren trade (Carlos Gonzalez, Brett Anderson and others) could be benchmarks.
Jon Heyman of SI.com heard from an executive who believes the Jays would hesitate to deal Halladay within their own division. Does that make the Phillies favorites?
The executives who spoke with Joel Sherman of the New York Post believe the Phillies are the frontrunners for Halladay. The Phillies want to win now and they think Halladay's ground ball-based approach would thrive in their homer-friendly park.Comment

WTF they already won last year.Comment

This is the wrong time in the season to pursue him. Roy Halladay is lights out before the All Star Break but only wins 61% of his games after the All Star Break. Don't get me wrong he is a great pitcher and everything but he kinda breaks down after mid July.
I could be wrong though... if he goes to a team like Philly with good run support, he could turn it all around.

The championships were 15 years ago bro.. the whole landscape of the team has changed. The only similarity is that Cito is back as the manager.Comment

Originally posted by houtzI'm with Cudi. Its even easier for me to become a Phils fan because I'm already half converted. Last season I watched/listened to every game. That's half the reason I'm into baseball.
To give up on the Pirates just wouldn't be right. But until they turn shit around I have no other team to root for.
I hope the Phils can land him without giving up Happ. From what I heard they'd probably part ways with JDonald and Drabek. Both are their top prospects and their respected positions. But with how deep the Phils farm system is I say make it happen.Comment

For the Blue Jay fans I'll give you a brief overview of Kyle Drabek. He was selected 18th overall in 2006 out of The Woodlands HS. Drabek was named 2005 and 2006 Texas 5-A player of the year and posted a 30-1 record in his high school career. He has had Tommy John surgery and looks like he is fully recovered. This year he has posted a 9-1 record with a 2.58 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, strikes out 9.06 batters per 9 innings and in 108.1 innings pitched this year, he has only allowed 2 homers. I personally don't want to give him away, but it's almost a given that the Jays would want him in a package.Comment

Bottom line, if you have a chance to bring in a Roy Halladay, you do what it takes to get him. If it means Happ, and 3 good prospects, well, best of luck to ya's. We'll take the proven ace.
As of now the Phillies starting rotation isn't good enough to win the World Series this year, IMO. Hamels/Blanton/Moyer as your top 3 isn't going to scare playoff caliber teams.Comment

A friend of mine had a good idea - force the team that wants Halladay to take Vernon Wells too.My Twitch video link: http://www.twitch.tv/dave374000

I'd hate to lose Happ because I really think that he's coming along, but Happ and whomever for Halladay? Yeah, I wouldn't lose any sleep over that at all.
And I agree with you mobb, the current rotation is going to give me fits in the playoffs (if they even make it there) with the way that Hamels is pitching.Comment
