The city of Philadelphia did go 25 years without a single champion, so they have suffered their fair share.

But still, fuck them for this run they are on now. I guess I know what it's like for non-Braves fans in the 90s now.

Blade and others, IDK but this sounds incredibly refreshing to me. We're known as such asshole fans that when somebody implies that we're not an "unforgiving place with a crazed media waiting for you to fuck up so they can blast you" something in my pants goes hard.

The point is that this type of shit is ruining sports, not just baseball. Teams are monopolizing talent and it hurts the league from top to bottom.
      Damn you. Take the bait.

Why didn't the Phillies just get this done last year?

Because they thought they could win it without him but then got their Lilly asses kicked by the giants and realized that they can't win without him.

Oh yeah btw, don't know if you motherfuckers heard but the giants signed Miguel tenada! Cliff who????

At the time, the Phillies didn't know if they would be able to resign Lee, so they dealt him for Halladay.

              1) They couldn't find a taker for Blanton. According to Jayson Stark, attempts were made to trade him, w/o success.
              2) They assumed he would be looking for CC money after the 2010 season, since the market was established by CC's signing at that point.
              3) They also figured the 3 prospects they were getting, would actually amount to something.

              This year:
              1) The market price was a lot lower than the Phillies expected.
              2) He actually was willing to sign for way less than what anyone was offering, that's how much he liked Philly. Ruben couldn't afford to go on that assumption last year.
              3) According to Stark, atleast 3 teams are willing to take Blanton as long as Phils eat half his salary.
              4) Ruben realized he was being too fancy last year, and its time to go for it.
              5) Also Phils players are reporting, including coaches and Uncle Cholly, that Lee continously told them he wanted to be back, so I am guess that lit a fire under Amaro's ass.

Reports say Lee personally contacted the Phillies this time around.

Pretty awesome to see this all out in front of me. The only person I cared about when they left was J.A., but that's because of those flashes he showed in the playoffs when we won it all.

I do root for the underdog, it is what I love about sports. Forgive me not jumping in joy over this and the realizing that the Phils are most likely winning the NL in December.

Again, this has nothing to do with the Giants. Hell, I'll be happy if the Giants even make the playoffs this season given that they made it on the last day of the season this year and needed a historic September run and some luck to get there. I just hope someone else can fill the role of spoiler and do what the Giants did, it's unlikely, but thats what makes it so much better.
I guess I don't really see the point of that since I'm a Phils fan first. I want to see them win and am not really worried about how interesting they try to make it for the rest of the league. If one of the best pitchers in baseball wants to come to my team and will do it at a reduced price than what he'd get elsewhere, I'm going to be happy and never think "well, is this good for the rest of the teams in baseball?"

Underdogs are nice, naturally. And when your team wins as an underdog it's great. But if they win as the favorite, hey, that's great too.

Lee will get on average 24 mill a year...5yrs, 120mill...

the years is what counts, 5 years is great...he really didn't want to go to NY...I really think Texas was his #1 until he went to see if the Phillies were interested.
