You have to watch Arroyo to appreciate him. He's a guy who doesn't care about numbers, and pitches to the scoreboard. He can K guys, and bears down when he has to, but he generally will pitch to contact and try to make you hit bad stuff. He teases you with slow loopy curves and does wacky shit like throwing 15 straight breaking balls or 0-2 85 mph "heaters" down the middle, with the idea of keeping you guessing. He ends up with high era's some years, because he will get bombed once or twice per year and not get out of the 1st. But he's a lock for 35 starts, 200 IP, and 15+ W's. I love him.
I was a big fan of him when he was in Boston. Still mad that they traded him for Wily Mo Pena

It took me four years to really appreciate arroyo. Since he has been here he was called a number five pitcher being asked to be a number one or two. while he isn't an ace he is better than a number five so I won't argue Underrated. now Adam dunn, lol must be a case of so overrated that his considered Underrated. what a joke if you white sox fans are happy with him I am glad, but Underrated what a joke.
The guy plays every position but Catcher for the rays. His best year was 2009, so what you said doesn't make sense. He did have a horrible year last year, but they still won the AL East. You never really hear his name brought up for any discussion, which is why I mentioned his name. I'm not saying he's the most underated, but he's def not talked about even though he is a really quality player.
Sorry meant he was underrated AFTER 2009 but proved to be rated about where he should be after a pretty bad 2010.
Josh Johnson is a great example I think. Fantasy players know what he brings but a lot of the mainstream media don't give him the love he deserves.
I think that he'd be more of a known player had he finished the season last year. He'd have finished top-3 in the Cy vote had he not shut it down mid season.
Honestly shocked to see any Yankees in this thread (because like it was said, it's almost impossible to be underrated in New York), but if there is one guy that is underrated, it's Brett Gardner. A year or two ago I would have said Robby Cano as well, but he rated pretty fairly now.
