I like what the Cards did. Rasmus wasn't listening to coaches. TLR didn't want him there anymore. He was becoming JD Drew.

The Cards got two veteran pitchers that will help right away. At worst, Jackson is a number 4 starter. Probably a 3. Octavio Dotel will be a capable bullpen arm as will Marc Rzepczynski. Corey Patterson is a serviceable forth outfielder/defensive replacement for Berkman.

Oh and when Jackson and Dotel depart next year for free agency, the Cards will get two or three high draft picks.

The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

I don't really disagree with any of that, except...

Corey Patterson is terrible, and I have no idea how he is still in the major leagues.

As a hitter, yes. As a defensive replacement for Berkman, he's serviceable.

Rumor going on that the White Sox and Brewers are discussing a salary dump trade that would send Matt Thornton and Alexis Rios to the Brewers with a lot of cash for Mat Gamel. I don't know if the Brewers can afford to take on that much money.

Indeed. I've given up on him, after his most recent major league tour. Dude seems to be destined for a AAAA career.

I think he's going to the Mets as one of the PTBNL.

Word around the Reds camp is Walt wants to go "all in" and make a huge deal. Something tells me that means Ubaldo. Pretty damn excited for these next few days

"All in" better not mean Bailey.

Alonso, Mesoraco, Grandal, Wood, Heisey, Hamilton, whoever else. No Bailey, not for Ubaldo, no way. And for fucks sake, no Chapman for anyone.

Agreed. Im hoping its some sort of Wood, Alonso + package. No Heisey Chapman or Bailey

If it saves us the Alex Rios money, then for gods sakes count me in.

I am in shock that my fellow Reds fans are still enamored by Homer Bailey and are willing to part with Travis Wood rather than Homer Bailey... I just flat don't get it.

The Cubs are closing in on a deal with the Indians for Kosuke Fukudome; not finished yet, but nearing the 1-yard-line.

Cubs get 2 prospects; presumably the Cubs will kick in chunk of almost $5 million owed to Fukudome. Deal likely done by gametime today.
