That's a lot of money over a lot of years.
That'll be the worst deal in baseball for the back end four years of the deal, for sure.
For the short term though, helluva player. I just imagine after 32, he's going to hit a wall and the last couple years of that deal will be rough on the budget for Detroit.Comment

A lot of people ragged on peralta last year yet he was perfectly fine. He had one of the best fielding % for a SS last year. Inge is so fucking overrated though. For every great play he makes, there another mental error that ends up fucking us at another point. He takes too many risks and not capable of pulling them off like he used too.
Peralta fielding %: .988
AL SS fielding %: .972
Last year at least, he caught was was hit to him. For his career, he's much closer to the league average of .971 (.977). He either had a good year with the glove, or just benefited from the scoring more than usual.
Peralta RF/9, RF/G: 4.34, 4.14
AL SS RF/9, RF/G: 4.36, 4.33
According to these numbers, he had below average range, and has had below average range for the last two seasons, which may indicate that he is regressing as he creeps up to 30 and loses athleticism. This is a number that likely will keep moving backwards.
Looks like a guy with declining range, who had a career year in terms of errors, which is a shaky stat to begin with. His low DP total (83) is telling on the surface (most good SS's are in the 100+ range), but then again I don't know much about the Tiger pitching staff (ground ball rates, etc).
I don't watch Peralta enough to throw in an eye test, but on the surface these numbers look to me like a guy who is below average defensively. In fact, I don't even see a need to dig deeper, because I see nothing that indicates he's any good, really.Comment

I think the Pujols contract will be worse at the end.
With that said, i'm pumped if i'm a fan of either team, win now, worry later.Comment

The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"Comment

I think Damon is the best DH still available, the market was pretty poor for them after the Sox picked up Ortiz's option.Comment

like this contract is gonna happer what illitch does. money has never been an issue with him. never. just like 2 years ago when buster olney said the tigers could not afford to keep miggy and that they were going to trade him to ny or boston. the contract might be bad at the backend but it will not stop illitch from spending if it means a legit shot at winning it all. thats how he has done it with the red wings up until the cap and the wings rake cash for him.Comment

I'm sure by July I'll be hearing "well we have a lot of young talent coming up" or "our record is really good if you compare it to other teams in the league, if we just weren't in the same division as the yankee's and red sox"...
Fuck this shit :imad:Comment
