Who is getting called up today?

Henry Rodriguez? Dioner Navarro? Willie Harris? Mike Costanzo?

Rodriguez: On the plus side, he's a fresh face and is a switch hitter. .332/.365/.421 combined at three levels this year. Can play 3B to spell Rolen. On the down side, he's only been in AAA a week or so.

Navarro: I've been pushing for Navarro for a while now. Another switch hitter, but more importantly, a catcher, so either Hanigan or Mesoraco can be used as a PH instead of wasting away on the bench when the other starts. Raking at AAA. On the down side, carrying three catchers limits roster flexibility and almost guarantees Miguel Cairo gets a lot of starts at either 3B or 1B when Rolen rests. Not on the 40-man.

Harris: Left handed. That's all i've got. Otherwise, offers nothing else the bench doesn't already have, since Wilson Valdez is more versatile and just as shitty with the bat. Not on the 40-man.

Costanzo: Left handed hitter, plays the corner spots. But he was so putrid on his first call up that it's hard to have faith. Got BABIP'd, but the high K total tells no lies.

Who else: Kris Negron (did not impress earlier this year, not a corner IF), Didi Gregorious (not happening, needs daily AB's at AAA for now), Xavier Paul (replaced Joey Gathright, raking since they signed him, MLB experience, left handed hitter, not on 40-man), Chris Valaika (The Lake Monster can play third, is on the 40-man, but has never done much in his cups of coffee), Neftali Soto (plays 1B, hit 30+ HR's last year, struggling this year).

As soon as I hit "reply", I see on twitter that Todd Redmond, the P the Reds got from the Braves for Paul Janish, is apparently getting the call.

I guess the Reds will roll with the four man bench (plus Mike Leake, pinch hitter extraordinaire) for now because the bullpen is taxed and needs an extra arm. At least until the off day at the end of the home stand, at that point I assume Redmond goes back down for one of the bats listed above.

Actually, this move makes me wonder if maybe Redmond is starting in place of Cueto tonight. If they wanted a bullpen arm, why not Hoover?

Cueto pushed back another day or skipped, Redmond starts, is sent back down tomorrow, and then a bat comes up.

Cueto is still starting via Fay. Redmond is here for insurance in case Cueto doesn't give us very many innings. Lets hope thats a non issue.

According to Willie Harris via twitter, Xavier Paul is getting called up to replace Redmond.

On the day Sparky Anderson and Davey Concepcion are inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame, and on the 25th anniversary season of the Big Red Machine’s first World Championship, Larkin – wearing a replica BRM uniform from 1975, like the rest of his teammates – places a single long-stemmed red rose at third base in the pre-game ceremony to mark the absence of Pete Rose among the BRM returnees. (Rose was banned from baseball for his involvement in gambling and wasn’t allowed on the field.) The image, captured by still cameras, instantly goes iconic. A thunderous ovation brings down the Cinergy house.

So will the Reds move Chapman back to the rotation at the end of the season? Or is he pretty much secured as closer?
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

Chapman is not going to start this year.

I have no idea what the Reds will do next year. None of the starters stink or deserve to lose their job. Arroyo is under contract for one more year. Arroyo is unlikely to be traded or released because his deferred money (which is substantial and runs into the end of the decade) would then be due all at once.

I suspect the Reds will trade Homer Bailey at some point. He is having a good year so his value is peaking. His big arbitration years are coming up, so I think the Reds would prefer to keep Leake who is younger and cheaper if forced to move one or the other.

Rudi, I got my best seat ever for the Reds tonight, first row, right next to the dugout on the home plate end, right where Dusty sits for maximum harassment if he leaves Latos out there too long.

I'm on TEAM DUSTY though this year so i'll probably be nice. I will however be within shouting distance of the home plate ump, so immature behavior will be a given regardless of the target of my rage.

GO REDS, THEY ARE MY FAVORITE TEAM, I HOPE THEY WIN
