The reports have been that his velocity was down this spring. And that was confirmed in the Giant's first game of the season yesterday. Lincecum gave up a few long home runs in the first inning on a few meat balls. But of more concern is his fast ball velocity was down almost three miles from his career average for the pitch, sitting at just 90 mph on average according to Pitch f/x. Hitters rejoice.:joeybats:
I think worst of all is that Lincecum has decided to stop throwing his slider due to concerns of a possible injury. This isn't a new concept, in 2010 Zack Greinke claimed to refuse to use his slider at times because he thought the team wasn't competitive and he didn't want to wear out his arm. The difference here is Lincecum is dropping the pitch cold turkey, and he's playing for a World Series contender.
Of course Pitch F/X says he threw 17% sliders yesterday. :gayrod: But despite being very useful, pitch F/x is inherently flawed, so I'm taking Tim's word here. So what do you think? Is it time for manchild to trade Lincecum for some peanuts in the fantasy league?

Interesting. "@AdamDoctolero: And Timmy confirmed after his start that he did not throw a single slider. Fastball, change, cutter."
