So are we concerned about Tim Lincecum yet?

The reports have been that his velocity was down this spring. And that was confirmed in the Giant's first game of the season yesterday. Lincecum gave up a few long home runs in the first inning on a few meat balls. But of more concern is his fast ball velocity was down almost three miles from his career average for the pitch, sitting at just 90 mph on average according to Pitch f/x. Hitters rejoice.:joeybats:

I think worst of all is that Lincecum has decided to stop throwing his slider due to concerns of a possible injury. This isn't a new concept, in 2010 Zack Greinke claimed to refuse to use his slider at times because he thought the team wasn't competitive and he didn't want to wear out his arm. The difference here is Lincecum is dropping the pitch cold turkey, and he's playing for a World Series contender.

Interesting. "@AdamDoctolero: And Timmy confirmed after his start that he did not throw a single slider. Fastball, change, cutter."
Of course Pitch F/X says he threw 17% sliders yesterday. :gayrod: But despite being very useful, pitch F/x is inherently flawed, so I'm taking Tim's word here. So what do you think? Is it time for manchild to trade Lincecum for some peanuts in the fantasy league?

His avg velo has dropped an MPH for two straight years coming into this season. I was already concerned, now even more so.

I'm concerned. Definitely not surprised though, as soon as he entered the league there were questions about whether or not his body would hold up throwing at that velocity. Apparently he lost a lot of weight in the off-season too which certainly didn't help.

I originally wanted Lincecum in a deal with MC.

If I were Lincecum's agent I wouldn't be happy that Tim only wanted a 2-year deal.

              He had 7 K's in 5.1 innings.

Rough first inning in his first start of the season. Nothing to see here.

Not concerned, I think he will be fine.

HOW!?!?!?! He couldn't have been more than 165 last year.
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.

Always concerned when these type of pitchers lose velocity in their fastball. Hes skilled enough to work around it id think, but abandoning the slider also seems worrisome here. I still think hes going to be a stud for the time being.

He lost over 20lbs. He did more cardio and more healthy food. Apparently he had been stuffing his face with 4x4s from In-n-out.

I'm hating this. I know it's only one start but the velocity deal is killing me and I'm trying to figure out a way to get value in a Lincecum trade in fantasy.

Tim Lincecum fat looks healthier than most skinny people
