Yeah I'd rather gamble on what could be Hanley's prime than what will be Aramis' golden (read: retirement) years. Hanley is 28. He had shoulder problems and off-field problems. Now he gets to have a clean salte with new fans and teammates in an energized clubhouse. If it works out that he gets back to his better years, this is the bargain of the century. If it doesn't and he keeps his form of this season and last, it's still a huge upgrade on what is going on at 3rd and SS right now.

I'm not even going to try to debate you on the meaning of "consistently outperformed" because it's 1) laughable (I lol'd), and 2) you're nerdy enough to dig through stats and find a million and one ways to argue the point, and 3) it doens't fucking matter.

All I know is that the Dodgers are buyers in a division race at the deadline and the Brewers are sellers praying to the Lord Almighty that they can convince any kind of talent to sign this winter. Keep being a nit-picking hater and keep talking shit and see if it makes you feel better when you watch Front Row Amy.

    "WHAT A SHITTY FRANCHISE!"

Hanley Ramirez so far in 2013, his age 29 season: 31 games, 109 plate appearances, 41 hits, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs, 4 stolen bases, 8 walks, 13 strikeouts. That comes out to .410/.450/.750 with a wOBA of .502. Small sample size? Sure. Fangraphs gives him 1.9 WAR for it. He has an active hitting streak of 18 games, which is the longest for his career.

My favorite fantasy player, surpassing Ryu who has fizzled out.

Today is the anniversary of this trade. I lifted this from a lengthy writeup:

Ramirez: .313/.367/.542 with 20 homers in 444 PA with Dodgers, 4.7 WAR, two trips to disabled list
Choate: 4.89 FIP in 13.1 IP for Dodgers in 2012, signed shocking three-year deal with St. Louis

Eovaldi: 67/42 K/BB in 18 starts (97.2 innings) with Marlins, missed 2.5 months with shoulder trouble
McGough: 45/13 K/BB in Double-A this year, Southern League All-Star, made Triple-A debut July 12

I don't think anyone ever argued that the Dodgers gave up a lot (player wise) in order to acquire Hanley. They argued that at the time it seemed like there were better uses for the money they would be paying him.
