UPDATE: Mets to Offer Dickey 2-Years //Gauging Market for R.A.

Rumblings over the past couple days say Dickey is looking for more money than the Mets are willing to give him. MetsBlog says he may be looking for 4 years & $50 million while the Mets are looking for 2 years & $20 million. Meanwhile, the NYDN says the Mets believe they can sign him to an extension for cheaper than $12 mil a year for 3 years.

HOWEVER, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Heyman say the Mets are gauging the trade market at the GM meetings in the event they cannot reach an agreement. They're looking for a catcher & outfielder in return for the Cy Young winner according to Heyman.

I wouldn't want them signing him to anything longer than 3 more years and even $12 million/per may be pushing it. Giving that kind of deal to a 38 year old knuckleballer? meh. Besides, the team is not winning anytime soon so if they can somehow manage to get two starters elsewhere, JUMP ON IT!

      2yr/20m for a 38 year old pitcher?

trade him and take the best offer, no matter what it is.

btw - I read the Mets were also shopping Ike Davis?...why?

I think the feeling is Davis has value which could let them play Duda at first and get pieces back elsewhere.

        I'd rather keep Ike...Duda hasn't proven anything.

Plus, Duda just broke his right wrist.

Plus with Davis at first, you have a black hole in Duda in the outfield. Best to deal one of them and get a better defender in the outfield. If they want to trade Davis, by all means call Camden Yards. We'll send over someone for him.

            Doubt they are trading Ike.

Supposedly Mets brass believes it won't take an Oliver like contract to keep Dickey...

:duda: is alright...and Ike isn't a world beater, but I would much rather prefer Ike over Duda.

                I'd trade him regardless.

Maybe I'm a ruthless bastard, I guess...but the Mets aren't going anywhere...no need to keep a 38 year old pitcher for big money. Mets should be rebuilding while they shed these big contracts (like they just did with Bay)...Dickey, after his season, is the perfect trade bait to pass on to a contender looking to get a 2/3 starting pitcher and hopefully they'd give the Mets someone worth a damn.

Just interested in knowing...would you trade Niese?

Met's should trade Dickey while his value is high. He'll have a 4+ era next season.

Pretty much this. Why would you trust a knuckleballer?

I'd consider it, but would need to get a real good bat in return.

A 38 year old knuckleballer? I would think they wouldn't get a good offer in the off-season and their best move is to sit on him to make it to the trade deadline and make a deal then.

Why would I trade a 26 year old, who just had his best season, who is under team control at a very cheap contract for another four seasons?

Its about acquiring more youth, not trading youth.

Dickey's value will never be higher...it has never been higher. I'd let another team worry about extending him. Get yourself some more youth and continue moving on. I wouldn't expect to land a high-end prospect, but get something decent for him and move on.

btw I don't know about Dickey regressing that much, he pretty much had a Cy Young season pitching with fucked up ribs IIRC...
