Joe Saunders on the 15-day DL. Maybe this explains why he has been so awful for the past few months after that tremendous start. Hopefully he can come back strong and the Angels can get back to scoring runs inning after inning.

The Angels have offered SP Joe Saunders, SS Erick Aybar and CF Peter Bourjos to the Blue Jays for ace Roy Halladay, according to the Toronto Sun.
The offer could put the Angels in the driver's seat for Toronto's ace; they have been the most aggressive in negotiations and possess the requisite ammunition to get a deal done. Saunders, 28, was 16-7 with a 4.60 earned run average in 31 starts in 2009. Aybar, who will turn 26 next month, hit .312 with five homers and 58 RBIs in 137 games. Bourjos, 22, is a highly-regarded speedster. Saunders and Aybar are both three years away from free agency. The story notes that the Blue Jays would likely trade recently-signed shortstop Alex Gonzalez if they acquired AybarComment

Mike Scioscia revealed the Angels' plans to replace departed third baseman Chone Figgins in a chat with reporters Wednesday.
Brandon Wood is the leading candidate to start at third base. "He has to have the mindset to come in there a win a position," Scioscia said. "We do have some depth that we'll use if it's going to make us a better team, but we definitely want to give Brandon every opportunity to show his talent. Because he's a very, very talented young player." Maicer Izturis and Erick Aybar could share the leadoff role. Izturis will share time with Wood while also backing up shortstop and second base. "...if Izzy is in the lineup, I think he's a natural to lead off," Scioscia said. "If he's not, then Erick Aybar would definitely be a guy who could lead off. He'd get on base and set the table -- maybe not at the pace that Chone did, but eventually he'll roll into that."Comment

The Yankees, Red Sox and Angels plan to attend Aroldis Chapman's workout next week in Houston, according to agent Randy Hendricks.
"He's going to do a bullpen session, so we'll see it," said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. "We've seen him pitch internationally, so we'll take a look at that." The Orioles, Tigers and Phillies have also shown interest in the heralded left-hander and may decide to attend.Comment

Tyler Kepner of the New York Times has confirmed that the Angels and DH Hideki Matsui have agreed to a one-year contract.
The deal is worth about $6.5 million. Matsui, 35, will take over as the primary designated hitter in Anaheim. He hit .274/.367/.509 with 28 homers and 90 RBI over 456 at-bats in 2009 for the Yankees and should serve as a fine replacement for Vladimir Guerrero. Matsui is a .292/.370/.482 career hitter.
BIG DEAL. Save that money and throw it at Bay and HollidayComment
