Just stay afloat, be within 5 games of whoever's leading the division by the time Pujols is back and we'll be fine. Huge blow obviously, but we won't fold this next month...plenty of talent still on this roster to get it done. Freese coming back in about a week or so helps and Jay will be starting regularly in right now, so our young guys can steer the ship and help get this team back into the post-season.

Looks like Carp's starting to return to form...and just in the nick of time.

                Cardinals released RHP Ryan Franklin.
Franklin began the season firmly entrenched as St. Louis' closer, but he blew a save on Opening Day and it's been all downhill since. The 38-year-old right-hander allowed nine home runs and 44 total hits in just 27 2/3 innings this season. He could decide to simply retire.
                MY GOD.. finally.

ST. PETERSBURG -- Cardinals officials expressed increased optimism regarding superstar Albert Pujols on Saturday, but stopped short of projecting a return date for the slugger. Pujols has been out since June 19 because of a small fracture in the area of his left wrist.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Saturday that improvement in Pujols' wrist will "likely" allow him to return for the club's first series after the All-Star break, July 15-17 at Cincinnati. The paper even allowed for the possibility of Pujols returning before the break, but reported that such an outcome is less probable.

General manager John Mozeliak acknowledged optimism regarding Pujols, saying that his recovery has progressed faster than expected. However, he was not comfortable targeting a much earlier return date for Pujols just yet. The initial estimate of six weeks for Pujols' recovery would have had him back on the roster on Aug. 1.

"As far as how he's feeling, I know he's feeling great," Mozeliak said. "I don't know what that translates to [as far as a return date]. ... But it does sound like he's on a faster pace."

Pujols was reevaluated on Friday, and the club was encouraged by the initial findings. However, Dr. George Paletta, the team's head physician, hasn't had a chance to go over the findings with the front office. That will happen on Monday or Tuesday, at which time a better read will be available.

Pujols will almost certainly not go on a Minor League rehabilitation assignment.

"He doesn't need it," manager Tony La Russa said.

Tonight's game had game of the year potential if the Cardinals won. Reminded me of the Braves comeback in Cincy last year.

Yeah, that was a great comeback just to tie the game. Taking 2 of 3 from the Reds is always nice...just keep the ball rolling with this 4-game set against Arizona. McClellan has been struggling (besides the Philadelphia game) so a good outing would be awesome tonight.

Cards got a good deal in this trade. Good starting pitcher. Two good relievers. Serviceable defensive replacement. And when they're free agents next year, the Cards will get two or three supplemental picks. At least one will be at the end of the first round.

They traded three relievers (of which one was under 30) and an underachieving outfielder who wasn't listening to coaches and looking more and more like JD Drew. Oh and they have his replacement in Jon Jay

So ... isn't Molina a free agent next year?
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"
