And the Lebron infatuation starts. As much as I'd LOVE to see the Nets land him, it's probably best everyone assumes it isn't going to happen.

A prime Rasheed played great defense, but the current one likes to sray out side and shoot 3's. For a guy of his ability Sheed has never been a real good rebounder.

agreed. the nets had a great run with Kidd and Carter a few years back. Carter is still a great player but couldnt carry the Nets on his back anymore. just time to move on. also a good move to set up for the Lebron sweepstakes when they move to Brooklyn.

Fuck the Nets organization if they do this. Fuck them.

This trade does not help us because we are not getting LeBron. No, it's not happening. Stop dreaming about it. The best thing we get out of this trade is Rafer Alston and he's not even remotely near the worth of Vince Carter. PLUS, he'll be on the bench. Terrible move. Lee is a decent defender, but he's a role player. The Nets don't need more role players. What the fuck are we going to do with role players if we don't have the star players around them? Stop thinking about 2010 and THINK NOW. Get a athletic, high-energy PF or SF (similar to Kenyon Martin... ya' know... the guy that made us Finals contenders?) and upgrade instead of downgrade.

          This move better not happen.

Guys, it looks like its official - Vince Carter to Orlando for Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston, Tony Battie, and draft picks.

            Verified.

            Sorry Deviant.

And the more and more I think about this deal, the more and more I see the Magic saying "bye turk, it was nice having you." :|

That is what the objective is...its been that way for a few years now...it is how you have to judge these moves, otherwise they make no sense at all. The way things are shaping up, its going to be Cleveland, the Knicks, or the Nets that get LeBron. Put it this way, if you have a 1/3 shot to land one of the best players in basketball, you wouldn't take it, especially when your run is done? I have no qualms with taking this shot...even if its a small one.

The Nets have since gone all in and basically traded away their core (J-Kidd, RJ, VC) for nothing but expiring deals and a few young players with light hit contracts. Devin Harris, Yi (I think he sucks, but regardless, the effort was there), Lee in this case and has drafted pretty well Lopez, Anderson, Williams, and CDR.

The Nets will have, IIRC, about 20M in total cap by 2010 which leaves them some ridiculous amount of cash.

i agree, downgrade for Nets, Lee had a good solid year last season, but with Pietrus (sp?) out for some time, he got to blossom. Alston is ok, terrible for Magic to give up on him already, incase Nelson goes down again

No question. If they land Vince Hedo is as good as gone.

Yeah, with VC there just doesn't seem to be enough room for Turk, although they'll miss his ballhandling and ability tremendously. I guess VC can take over some of that, but he isn't the playmaker Turk is. I wonder if Turk tipped them off or anything that he was looking elsewhere? I say that because this move sort of came out of no where.

One of those point guards had to go. The Magic certainly weren't going to keep Alston considering how Nelson has improved over the past couple of years.

Anthony Johnson was pissed as shit for being benched during the finals after what was one of his most productive seasons in the NBA. He got shafted hard by Van Gundy who decided to bring Nelson back.

The Nets have no interest in winning anymore. That's the biggest "Fuck You!" the Nets organization has given it's fans in a long time. The Nets have just given up on their season. It's official. That organization have no fucking clue what it wants to do anymore.

Turk has never been hush-hush about the fact that he wants to get paid. IMO, the Magic kinda shot themselves in the foot by paying out the ass for Shard. If you were putting up similar numbers, you'd expect to make the same as the next guy. (in before mbuser with stats for shard and turk)

If you worked in a corporate office and were performing as well as the dude making a couple more bucks an hour than you were, you'd expect to get a raise as well if you knew the kind of money he was making.

why dont think lebron will end up with the Nets? They are moving to NY next year, will have a shitload of cash and Jay-Z is his boy. do you really think the Nets have any sort of shot this year to do anything with the Cavs and Magic staring down at them? i sure dont

Although I think Nelson's contribution and "leadership" are way overblown I do believe he's a better option for this team, as he generally is more in control of himself and his game and consistent. Letting Alston go will hurt, but not to the point where it has any real significance.

I read these same exact posts when J-Kidd was traded and when Jefferson was traded.

It has a clue what its doing...heck, it even has a goal...to get LeBron. You may not think they'll get him...but at least they are showing they want to get him and have all the power to get him...they just need that Jay Z connection and the move to Brooklyn to come together as enough of a selling point.
