Rubio to stay in Spain?

Once it came out that Rubio would have to essentially play for free, or even pay to play, sending each paycheck to his old team for the next 2 years, many people began speculating that he might not automatically come over.
It was already expected he wouldn't play for Memphis, so him not wanting to play for another of the NBAs most moribund and hopeless franchises does not surprise me in the least.Last edited by NAHSTE; 06-27-2009, 12:05 PM.Comment

Originally posted by DeeJayyeah if it happened. and Rubio ended up staying in Spain. Timberwolves would be really annoyed and it would be unfair to them. I mean yeah, you would have preferences to who you would like to play for. But surely playing in the NBA is good enough, atleast give Timberwolves a go.
But i guess in the end its up to Rubio
Not like this is new to anybody
He would be paying to play in the NBA at first almost . Its going to take him more to buy out his contract than hes earning in wages (if im not mistaken) . Barring endorsments hes going to be effectivly paying to playLast edited by Archer; 06-27-2009, 12:06 PM.Comment

Thank you. This happens all the time. From Fran Vazquez, to Thiago Splitter, to David Andersen, to whoever the fuck else you want to throw in there, guys get drafted and don't come over right away all the fucking time.

Another difference with Rubio was him coming out and talking about his willingness to play for free and how it'd just be an honour to play in the NBA.. then you turn around and say you want to stay in Spain bcus you didnt end up on one of the teams you were hoping. Thats the whole part of the draft.. you never know for sure where you're going.
Id like to make it clear also that I dont think Rubio is dumb. He is using his leverage to his advantage. But it doesnt change to me that I think hes a spoiled bitch, which is really what I was arguing through the whole thread.Comment

To be fair, none of Vasquez, or Splitter, or Anderson went as high as Rubio.. and Fran had been saying all along he has no plans to come to USA but Magic drafted him despite that. I mean.. we already know late first rounders/2nd rounders from overseas are more than likely staying overseas.. a little different from the Rubio sito IMO.

It sounded like a good idea for him at the time, then he realized he had to move to Minnesota, and changed his mind. Sounds like something any 18 year old kid with options would do.
Few things are more fickle than the whims of a teenager.Comment

I dont think Rubio will be wanted back in Spain, especially since he sued his old team for millions about a month ago
1984 Record: 44-38 (9th in west)
1985 Record: 42-40 (7th in west; 1st round exit)
1986 Record: 51-31 (3rd in west; swept in finals)
The Grizzlies theme this season should be : "This Season, We're Doing It For The Lulz"Comment

1st offf he's more like the next Jason Williams than pistol Pete...
Pistol avg 44 pts a game @ LSU...Rubio barely had double digits in the spanish league...
He'll be in NYC but he better learn to play some D if he wants to stay in the NBA...NBA Pgs are gonna eat him alive

He needs to stay overseas. Because if he shows up to the L, all PG's with strength and size will give him 2 quick fouls.
There should be an inside NBA memo going around to punish the kid when he does show up to play. Post his scrawny ass up, run him over and make him play D, attack his soft ass when he dribbles. Basically, humiliate him for making a mockery of the League.
