BYU was gunna be one of my Final 4 teams, but without Davies I'm not sure they can make it that far. Then again, never doubt the Jimmer.

Davies was their big inside player...most of their tall guys just sit outside the 3pt line and shoot spot-up 3's. I think losing Davies will be big.

Illinois lost to Purdue in their typical fashion, lighting up Purdue in the 1st half, then going into stall mode in the 2nd half. Still, I am surprised to hear that people see Illinois as not getting into the tournament. Assuming they beat Indiana, Illinois will finish the regular season 9-9 in the conference, 19-12 overall, and either 4th or 5th in the conference. What do you think?

The game was tied at half. Illinois couldn't really go into stall mode.

I see Illinois as getting in as one of the last teams in, but if they don't make it I won't be surprised or up set. They are really soft mentally and physically and for as veteren as a team they are they have no real leadership at all. If they get in, they won't make it out of the opening round.

I'd imagine a .500 Big Ten record plus a few decent OOC wins should be enough to get them in.

While it appears like they have had a really dissapointing year... I feel like they had an overrated team coming into the year. McCamey is one of the more overrated PG's in the nation and they have no bigs who can post up and get you easy points in the paint.

Edit - Lunardi has them as a #10 right now so I'm guessing anything other then a loss to Indiana or a terrible first round Big Ten tourney loss should be enough.

Late in the game, Illinois was down like 64-63 or something like that. They held Purdue scoreless on 4 straight possessions. But on their 4 offensive possessions, the ball never crossed the 3 point line. The result was 2 turnovers, 2 missed 3's, and they lost about 2 minutes of clock time. Horrible.

Who are Illinois' good OOC wins? Gonzaga and UNC? That's really it. They have another decent win over Wisconsin and a win over MSU but their resume kind of sucks.

They beat Oakland (who is having a great season) and Maryland (FWIW). Their resume does kind of suck, but I just assume if they can finish 4th or 5th in the Big 10 with a .500 conference record, they'll automatically get in.

I guess I took you as saying stall mode as saying Illinois got a lead then sat on it. They were down most of the second half IIRC. I've never seen such a veteren team play with so little leadership. Tisdale is soft and appears to not care. McCamey isn't a great leader and seems to be all about himself. Mike Davis seems to be gutless even though he's the best player on the team.

I'm more looking forward to what Paul Richmond Leonard and Richardson can do in the next few seasons. Crandell Head is an interesting player but Weber seems to throw him to the wolves a lot.

I guess if illinois is relying on putting a win over Oakland on the resume they deserve whatever comes to them.

Luckily for them there aren't a ton of good mid majors this year. Especially in the midwest. The MVC this year is especially shitty.

Yeah, its the usual Illini team. By the time idiots like McCamey, Tisdale, and Davis become seniors, you just can't wait for them to graduate. Those three guys are so lethargic! I love Tisdale getting his shot blocked twice in succession by one of Purdue's guards. What a puss.

At least Richmond and Paul appear to have some explosion to their game, and it looks like Leonard might be able to pack on some muscle. I like Richardson, too.

UNC is looking like a great win now

Gonzaga is decent and could be better if they win the WCC tourney

                              Oakland is a solid win

Add a .500 record in the second or third best conference in the country and it's a 10 or 11 seed type resume with this years weak bubble imo

I always hate looking back at early season wins like UNC because what does it really mean now? Does anyone in their right mind think Illinois could beat UNC tomorrow? Its misleading.

Half of Illinois's "big wins" this year came over mid majors before the New Year. That's craptastic.
