The NBA is a perimeter game now. Dominant centres are nice, but don't win championships. The rule changes have changed the game from the Ewing-Olajuwon-Shaq eras.
I don't deny he is an elite centre, low-post player ... but those guys don't win championships in this era.

I have ... and Tim Duncan, while a Hall of Famer, is a non-entity in today's game.

Hes only been the focal point on 4 championship teams in the last 12 years.. non-entity indeed.

He won a ship as recently as 07.. the game hasnt changed all that much in the last 10 years Dave.. With the right pieces around him Dwight could easily help lead a championship team. No star is doing it on their own anymore. Pair him up with Deron Williams or Chris Paul and it would be pretty deadly.

BTW Dwight only averages 20 PPG/14 RPG/3 BPG in his career in the playoffs, I sure wouldn't want him leading my team in a series.

To say Dwight Howard would not be a huge difference in a Finals series where he's not the #1 (and only) weapon on a team is ridiculous.

There's no one like him so of course guys of his ilk aren't the norm. I'd pay my left nut to switch him with Amar'e...in a heartbeat.

I'd love Dwight on the Hawks too. He may not have all the bullshit "killer instinct" stuff that the pop psychologists look for but he can fucking dominate a game at any point, he's a physical specimen that you just can't find anywhere else in the league.

There's no doubt they have to trade him. And, let's be fair, is Dwight Howard so great that he deserves this much attention?
Howard a very good player, no doubt, but is he really elite?

Which way are you going to go with this argument Dave??

Dwight a complimentary piece? Are you serious? I'd love to keep that complimentary piece in Orlando and build around that. The only thing Orlando needs is a nice perimeter player, and guys who play D every night. They had that in a guy like Petrius and a nice backup in Gortat. They should have just made a slight tweak to last years team, instead they overhauled and it blew up in their face.

As of now, the only thing they can do, is trade Howard. I see no way he's coming back to Orlando. Get what you can from him and start over. I don't want this to be another Shaq situation :puke2:

                            Stop burying yourself, dave.

I'll take Dwight Howard on the Knicks any day over any player on this roster with the exception of Carmelo Anthony (and I'd have to think long and hard about that one). He makes that much of a difference.

Maybe Chris Paul and Dwight Howard will take there talents to the same team.

In today's game Howard is an elite center, but that really isn't saying much considering the only other decent centers are Bynum, Lopez, Horford, Noah etc. Other than Bynum not many of those guys have any upside. Don’t get me wrong, all of those guys are decent to above average, but none of them are anywhere near the caliber of Howard. IMO if Howard played in the early 90's he'd be behind Olajuwon, Robinson and Ewing. Granted all of those guys are HOFers.

Dave does have a point though. The game has changed, so low-post players don't have the importance they use to unless they’re surrounded by the right players. Orlando certainly doesn’t and never has had the right players around Howard. Once Boston figured them out (single cover Howard, stay on the shooters) the team was toast. I like Van Gundy, but they could use a better offensive philosophy around Howard. Boston and Atlanta this year proved in the playoffs that Howard can get his 30+ points and 15+ rebounds and the Magic will still lose.
