    FirstTimer's 7th Grade Team Thread

    No :pedobear: allowed.

Have 13 kids this season. No real height on the team but we have asome really nice wings. Our two tallest players can handle a little but so we are going to start installing as much High 1-4 stuff as possible and try to keep the lane clear.

The thing that is most encouraging thus far as been the players willingness to work hard on the defensive end. The offense will be there as we have kids who can score. The bigges thing for us will be defense and our ability to rebound given our lack of height.

First tournament is the weekend of the 28th-29th.

This is a rec league team right? How did you select your team? Im my area they do a draft where the kids come and do little drills and the coaches stand around and watch. It was liike a mini-combine. When I was in 7th grade I went to the draft and was selected second. I was so pissed, because I was better than him, so when we played his team I wanted to send a message to him and his coach. LOL

I was later kicked of the team because I made the middle school team. Someone snitched on me.

Tryouts back on mid December. I wanted 1 team of 12-14 but the parents wanted two teams so now each weekend we have no fucking bench. :obama:

              Not yet.

I try not to actually. I don't think I did all last season. I think the worst I said was "shit" in front of them a few times. Never really at them....Actually, one kid tried to do a crazy spin move and I said "We don't teach that bullshit"...that's about as bad as it got.

Ha. No height on the team to teach big man moves to. Plus, I played post and wing so I have it covered.

We could use a drunk though like in Hoosiers. So if you want to do that you can.

I expect hilarious updates and shenanigans from the parents.

Also, I coached two rec teams a few years back, a 3rd and 4th grade team and a 5th and 6th grade team. 3rd and 4th grade team was loaded and we dominated. 5th and 6th grade team was not loaded and we had no height and no stand out player. I instilled the 2-3 zone after we got smoked our first two games and we became one of the best defensive teams in the league...but couldn't score. Only won one game and lost all the others like 16-12 and shit.

I remember on my rec league teams zones were either banned at first and then the older age levels could only play them in the 2nd half. If you can get kids to rotate correctly chances are most teams won't have dead eye shooters to beat a zone consistently enough.

Zone defenses in rec league are cheese.

You should've seen my guys if anyone got inside. They'd be swarming the guy with the ball. I got my heaviest kid to be aggressive and he became a monster on the boards. I told them to let the other teams shoot as many threes and long jump shots as they wanted too. Once they got a couple feet inside the 3 point line, it was lock down. If only we could've scored.
