        NBA fines Spurs $250k.

Pocket change, but still a joke.

Stern doesn't have a leg to stand on. He can't say the Spurs threw the game because the Heat had to make a heck of a comeback to win it in the last minute. The emperor has no clothes.

so Is this the New Precedent in The NBA? are teams going to be fined for sitting players at the end of the season to rest up for the playoffs too? or is this just a 1 time thing bc it was a Marquee game in November?

According to NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver's comments back in April, what Pop did was within his rights as a coach to rest his players.

"The strategic resting of particular players on particular nights is within the discretion of the teams," Silver said then. "And Gregg Popovich in particular is probably the last coach that I would second-guess."
But yeah...Stern doesn't have a hard on for the Spurs

Then he should have a big cup of STFU. I bet the ratings for the game were higher than projected due to all of the hullabaloo about who was resting.

Why werent they fined the previous 10 times they did this? Just because it was a primetime game? God awful move by Stern especially considering how good the game turned out to be.

Yeah I can see where the Spurs would be bitching about this.. not every team gets to have these KILLER road trips against 3 win Toronto, 1 win Washington and 5 win Orlando. I mean where in that 3-game stretch would Pop EVER have a chance to rest his starters longer than usual. I'm sure he has a good reason though.. after all they only won by 26 against the Wizards and the night before 21 against Orlando. It was probably jet lag though from that 37-minute flight to Miami.

At least the NBA doesn't give the Spurs 12 of 14 games at home in March though. That'd probably be unfair to the contending teams in the West.

                      Oh wait.

Marquee matchups like Spurs-Heat are the only thing that keeps the NBA relevent in November/December. Pop made the decision to use that to stick it to the NBA, and the NBA reacted in kind. The Spurs very easily could of minimized their miniutes against Orlando and Miami, their bench goes 12 deep. I think the NBA reacted correctly to this hissy fit the Spurs threw by not playing their starters in that game. Fuck em.

It's a good thing Stern takes care of Miami though and prevents them from having long agonizing road trips..
