I am highly annoyed by Jamie Dixon, but I don't think even he is such a terrible coach that he would hold back an alleged sharpshooting team with such a slow tempo...especially when "keeping games close" never really works in Pitt's favor because they are such a horrible free-throw shooting team. I would assume that Pitt's high FG% is due to their deliberate offense and lack of outside shooting (hence less outside shots taken), as opposed to having 5 Kevin Durants on the floor. This point is strengthened further by Pitt's inability to score points...you know, the type of thing a good shooting team would do. This is JMO, but then again, I have a brain.

        This.

Pitt is not a good shooting team. They play slow, grind you, and try to take high percentage shots. Pitty knows this. This is why I said earlier, I don't care about layups. I'm talking about long range shooting, which is obviously not a Pitt strength. Not a single 3-point shooter over 38% or so, bottom quarter of the league in both 3-pointers made & 3-pointers attempted. Woodall is a decent shooter, and they have a few guys who are 'ok'. Nobody who scares you. Dixon doesn't even want them taking 3's for the most part (which is reflected in the total attempts & made), which is to his credit.

I mean, just watch them play. They don't run sets to get 3's, and when they do take them it's usually in transition or at the end of shot clocks. I don't even think Dixon himself would call jump shooting a team strength.

I really do not like Michigan in the tournament. They are prone to falling into long periods of chucking up awful shots. I think they are going to get bounced early

And to the point of Pitt being #1 in the league in FG%:

Hey, Mike Patrick, here's a reason why the Big East has become littered with teams playing zone D: Nobody can shoot.

              Duke will get bounced early.

Mason Plumlee can't rebound against any team that has a decent post player. His rebounding stats are inflated from playing in the ACC which has maybe 3 decent centers overall this year.

Ryan Kelly is trash. He had a good game in the Miami game but other than that he's been terrible all season. Hard to believe this kid was a 5* recruit coming out of high school.

Seth Curry isn't even half the player his brother was. He's clearly the best player on this team but he's not a player than can carry a team. He's way too inconsistent and relies way too much on the 3. When he goes cold there's no saving him and it's a guarantee he'll waste at least 5-6 possessions on terrible contested jump shots. His stats, much like Mason Plumlee, are inflated from big games against bottom tier teams.

I'd be willing to bet any Duke team from the past 10 years (except last years team) would destroy this years Duke squad.

Agreed. I think they're the nation's most talented team, but too many of their players disappear during long stretches during games. Burke can't carry them himself when that happens.

Pretty awesome display of shooting prowess by Pitt in the 1st half. 27 points, 34% from the field, 36% from 3, and an uncharacteristically high 70% from the line.

Looks like Dixon needs to up the tempo in the second half, no?

And in the end the reason they lost was Free Throws, which they've been horrible at all year.

For proof of this look no farther than the first half of the Maryland Duke game tonight. Every single one of these is happening. Ryan Kelly is garbage and Mason Plumlee may be the most overrated center in college basketball this year.

K-State looks like a sweet 16 team. They've made it to the round of 32 for 3 straight years, and the last time they had a team this good (2010), they went to the Elite 8.

They play excellent defense, they take care of the ball, and they're much smoother in Bruce Weber's motion offense now than they were at the beginning of the year. Rodney McGruder is a Senior who won't go out quietly. He's a legit scorer. Angel Rodriguez is one of the best point guards in the conference. They have good 3 point shooters. They have size. They have depth. They've been pretty consistent all year. They should make a decent run.

I think Indiana is a given sweet 16 team, but I'm not sure how long they can go.
