Always liked him, but felt like he was falling short of his true potential. Can't really put my finger on it but feels like we were always waiting on him to become something more. (Being the guy we "settled" for after Ty Lawson was taken one spot earlier will do that.) He can get to the hoop at will with his quickness, and he's an active defender. He'll put up the occasional big scoring night but he's not always as aggressive as he should be. At the same time though he's not really a "pass first" guard either.
Some who cover the Hawks are saying he never displayed enough leadership qualities, but I don't know how valid of a criticism that is. It is funny that he's staying with Larry Drew, who I feel stunted his development a lot by failing to trust him more in crunch time of games and jerking his minutes around. LD was constantly calling him out in post-games for not being more aggressive also, so it will be an interesting relationship to watch.Comment
