RMU clinched its second-straight NEC regular season title yesterday with a 71-70 overtime win over St. Francis Brooklyn. Karvel Anderson led all scorers with 31, while Lucky Jones added 14 and 8 - including the game-winning tip-in with 3.1 seconds left.

Pittsburgh [22-8 (10-7), RPI: 49, SOS: 92] It's one thing to lose close games to good teams. You can lose to Virginia on a last-second shot, or Syracuse on a 35-foot buzzer beater, and discerning basketball minds can still recognize your team's inherent quality. But when you fail to win any of the big close opportunities you have, and you have a bad nonconference schedule, and you start mixing in bad home losses to bubble teams, well, why would anyone stand a chance to defend Pitt's tournament honor? We're now at the point where Pittsburgh, a putative ACC title contender in the first half of the season, is at serious risk of missing the NCAA tournament. The Panthers were a No. 10 seed in Joe Lunardi's Thursday bracket projections, which is dangerously close to last-four-byes territory. A loss at Clemson on Saturday would be cause for alarm. An early loss in next week's ACC tournament could put them at genuine risk of missing the tournament. If that happens, Pitt will have no one to blame but itself.Last edited by Warner2BruceTD; 03-08-2014, 01:16 PM.Comment

A running theme here is Pitt's awful schedule coming back to bite them, and that the idea that Dixon "games the RPI" is complete bullshit.
Again, i'm fascinated that as a fan your response to posts like this isn't "Yeah, Dixon really needs to schedule better." Another top 50 win somewhere in November, and Pitt isn't sweating out games vs Clemson in March.Comment

Are your boys ready for THE MOUNT!!Comment

Big W for your boys over Wagner. Couldn't find a stream of that game, but it seemed to be pretty exciting.
We haven't played well at all during the quarters and semis, and Mount will kick our ass on Tuesday if we show up the same way. Should be a great game, and hopefully a little more offensive-minded than the previous title game tilt between the two in 2009.
Fifth championship game appearance in the past six seasons for RMU - that's pretty impressive regardless of conference.

Not many teams would have beaten Mount tonight, hard to stay with a team that shoots 60+% from the floor. Disappointing for sure, but this team overachieved with eight guys and no post presence so I can't stay too angry. Hopefully we get a favorable match-up in the NIT so Karvel and Ant have the chance to extend their careers.
