Favorite NBA Player That Never Played for Your Team

In 1974, my family moved from the South Bronx to Uniondale, on Long Island. We were a stone's throw from the Nassau Coliseum, and my dad would take us there to see the then-ABA New York Nets, and their star player, Julius Erving, a.k.a., THE DOCTOR. Oh...my....goodness - my jaw dropped watching him operate on the court! He was to me what Michael Jordan was to you younger NBA fans. One of the saddest sports memories of my life was the day Roy Boe sold him to Philly - broke my heart and killed pro basketball on the Island. I was so happy when he finally won the title in 1983 with Moses - he had suffered playoff heartbreaks for years. I'm a diehard Knick fan, but I celebrated with Sixer fans that whole summer.

And I'll say this - the NBA never saw Doc's best.

When I was a kid, I liked the Sixers specifically because of Dr. J. Watching him play basketball was just like you said, jaw dropping. If I had to point out a player that didn't play for my favorite team, I would have to say Magic Johnson. The things he could do with a basketball were just amazing to watch and the way he played the game was like nobody that I had ever seen before that time.

I'm a big fan of 3 point shooters. JJ Reddick at Duke is my favorite college player of all-time. So I would pick Reggie Miller for the NBA.

Larry Bird... Hands down. Dude was one of the least athletic guys in the league but out worked everyone. He was an ice-cold killer on the court.

MrBill - Oscar was considered a 'big guard' for his time, but Magic took it to another level at 6'9" 225. And who forget Game 6 of the 1980 Finals? Still the greatest NBA playoff performance I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. To do that as a rookie, on the road, in the deciding game of a championship series (without Kareem), was insane.

buckeye - the thing that shocked me about Larry was his rebounding. He was great at cleaning up around the basket. Like Jordan, Kobe & Isiah, he had the assassin mentality. He wanted to stick the dagger in the opponent's heart. I saw it plenty of times at the Garden. I hated his fucking Celtic guts, but I respected his game.

I won't count any ex-Tar Heels cause I always pull for them in the NBA.

I would say Reggie Miller & Dominique. Wilkins cause he just didn't care who was under the basket. He was getting dunked on. Miller because he would talk all that trash & have nothing to back it up w/but jumpers. But the guy would back it up w/jumpers. And on the biggest stage in the most crucial moments. You gotta admire that.

although - Benard King, did play for the Knicks, i wish they didnt let him go after the knee injury.
he was my favorite way back then - and i actually met him when he came to a function for our Travel basketball team back in 78-79??
right after that rape scandal, lol.

                          BUT

if you want really want a guy who never played for the Knicks, i would have to go with Julius Irving, also aka The Doctor
3rd & 14, inside your own 15, up 6, 3:20min left to go = call a PA Pass and Cancel. *its Legit, so no needless complaining
