Tackles are never a good stat to judge players.

How does a high number of tackles mean they are getting beaten consistently, though? Mike Doss was an All-American on the nation's best defense in 2002 and the man led that team in tackles with over 100.

A lot of safeties (Including Mays and Berry) are so instinctive, quick, and take such good angles that they end up with a lot of tackles in the run game.

In all seriousness though, USC's safeties rarely ever put up great stats because they play so far back (especially the FS). Mays is literally the last line of defense on 90% of the snaps and lines up around 20 yards behind the LOS.

I don't care about what Mays does in the NFL. He is a beast in college and will strike fear into the hearts of men. I almost fear that he will kill somebody this year because he is just too awesome to be playing college football.

Sure a 4.32 speed is good. But thats running fresh and without pads. He's not going to be that fast in the Fourth Quarter. I can guarentee you that.

I wonder when fans will realize physical attributes dont mean much on the field.

Having fast/slow reaction completely supersedes and negates all this.
