The idea that ALL punters / kickers are relatively unathletic weaklings is kind of over blown in the minds of many fans. Bills punter Brian Moorman is an excellent athlete who did really well (finished first or second) in some NFL athletics contest 2-3 off-seasons back, and Steelers punter Daniel Sepulveda was recruited as a LB out of high school and had a 40 time around 4.6 - which is quite good for a player his size (6'3 230lbs). Then there are those Aussie imports, who are mostly former Aussie rules / rugby players - I can guarantee those guys are as tough as nails, fit, and athletic. Therefore, I'm not completely surprised a kicker / punter beat a DB in a foot race - some of them are very good athletes.

Jets Chargers have had a K and P respectively that were pretty big strong guys.

I do wonder how much of that rep has to do with how out of shape these "in shape" guys get. You dont do anywhere on the same planet of work as the regular starters. They fall out of shape but learn neat tricks like ball spinning and bounce kicking.

Dallas drafted Buehler in the 5th round to be the kickoff specialist. He also serves several other roles, including punt coverage and holding for Nick Folk. He's a jack of all trades
