Knowing the injury situation Green Bay is in, this would be an asinine move of them to do right now. Clay Matthews might not be ready for the regular season due to an injury, and there's no guarantee that he'll be a good player, and some of their other linebackers are also banged up... Thompson, don't do this.
Finally back after a 3 year hiatus!

I thought that Green Bay had a man crush on Aj Hawk and would never part with him

AJ Hawk in college was the best linebacker this decade... period. He's up there in the top 3 all-time at Ohio State IMO.

He was a great blitzer and an excellent run-stuffer.. he was a bit of a liability in pass coverage but he has the athleticism to keep up.

Bills could use another LB. Ellison is kinda meh but then again they run more 4-3 iirc.

The dude averaged 100 tackles for his first 3 seasons in the league. Not many LBs can accomplish that much less in their first 3 years. AJ Hawk and Bust should not be used in the same sentence.

Hawk was very good, but he wasn't better than Andy Katzenmoyer, Chris Spielman, and Randy Gradishar.

I obviously never saw Speilman play... but people that did say he kind of resembles Laurinaitis in that he's great sideline to sideline and he'll make plays and tackles but he struggled to get off blocks.

I don't know if Hawk was better than Spiels... but I know he's in that top-tier no doubt.

I'd put him at a tie with Katz. Andy was fantastic against the run, but was nothing special against the pass. I think Hawk was a little more balanced all around, although not as good against the run, but was a much better leader than Katz. Overall, it is pretty close, IMO.

That being said, it is very hard not to put Laurinitis in the top 3. He was a tackling machine and played everything pretty solidly. It might be because he was the most recent great LB for OSU, but I'm torn over whether or not to include him.

Right.... AJ Hawk finished in the top 20 in the league in tackles as a rook, top 30 as a second year player, and then last year finished with 86 tackles despite being primarily a 2-down player who usually came off when the Packers went with their nickel package.

Having a big space eater in Raji will help out the Packers LB's.

I don't think Laurinaitis belongs up there... he just wasn't the dominant force that you would expect him to be with all of his accolades.

I would say that even though Gradishar and Spielman ended up being much better NFL players, Katzenmoyer is the top Ohio State guy IMO. The guy was a force. He was one of the best LBers I've ever seen in college.
