what did a bee come buzzing down sting the ball and then the wind pushed it towards smiths feet as he was walking to the sideline then he tried to jump over it until he forgot that hes 300+ pounds and gravity took over making him fall on his legRIPComment

wow....all the smith haters. I think its funny as hell that he broke his foot after signing. But not cause of him, but because of the bungles. They are a horrible franchise and have the worst karma.
not sure why people are hating on smith so much. People see holdout and automatically assume its the players fault. This is a case of the bengals low balling him after they drafted him #6. If they dont want to pay #6 prices, then they should have traded down. I dont blame him for holding out at all.Comment

Funny situation because of the holdout but I like how all you couch potatoes are ribbing Smith when the dude is probably more athletic than most of you. Definitely more athletic than Steeljake. lol @ one fat slob making fun of another fat slob. I'd love to see steeljake go through an NFL training camp. now that would be hilarity.Comment

Plus, what the hell do you guys expect the agent to do? Take a lesser deal and then try to recruit clients for the draft next year? All he would hear is how he couldn't get his client paid even his draft slot.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

Exactly. His agent, Alvin Keels, kept asking to be paid based off of the slot he was drafted in. The Bengals weren't budging and saying if he insisted on getting a deal based off his draft position that it was going to take awhile b/c the Bengals felt DHB was overpaid.

NFL.Com reported that Smith came into camp close to 400 lbs. than 300 lbs., about 30-35 lbs. overweight. Bust.Comment

The player controls the agent, don't get it twisted. The player is paying the agent, that's all that matters. The deal got done didn't it? Shouldn't have taken this long. It is the agent and the players fault but let's not act like the player doesn't have the final say.

To simply say to the player and the agent "well, we think Darius Heyward-Bey was overpaid, so we aren't going to go that high" is firing the first shot across the bow and looking for a fight. The Bengals have been a notoriously cheap organization for a long time. That reputation is beginning to change, but, you can't hold your draft pick hostage and expect him to take less money simply because you think the guy drafted after him was overpaid.
It works both ways. For example, what Crabtree is doing is ridiculous. He wants to be paid above his slot because he thinks he should have been drafted higher...well he wasn't! Crabtree should accept his draft status and the money that comes with it. The Bengals should accept the position that they drafted Smith in and pay him accordingly. Eventually, the Bengals caved in and did pay him his slot. That's all Andre Smith wanted, but, the Bengals didn't want to pay the price associated with it. Plus, the fact that Smith and his agent agreed to a weight clause shows that he is committed to working hard and staying in shape.Last edited by RyanLeaf16; 09-03-2009, 06:27 AM.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

plus smiths contract had a weight clause saying he cant be over 350. So he obviously didnt come in at 400lbs. He has been shown on hardknocks working out.
and reading some of these posts, i must say alot of you guys are just saying really stupid shit. The injury happened during non contact drills. This doesnt mean he was standing around doing nothing. He was doing drills that didnt involve contact which means he was doing some sort of activity.
how many players blow an ACL on no contact, or tear an achilies on no contact. Being his size has nothing to do with this being a freak injury.
and yes the players do pay the agent, but the agents job is to get the player a contract that is fair or above his value. In this case the player was only looking for fair value of his draft status. I blame the bengals 100% for this long hold out.
Its also funny how HBO portrays smith as an outcast or someone who is not respected by his teammates. but then last night they had no choice but to show how welcomed he was by his teammates who know and understand that a player who is holding out is looking out for his best interest. This is a job....and anyone would want to be paid a fair price regardless of the careerComment
