Like I said, it's completely his choice. Fuck all the other bullshit. It doesn't matter what the players in front of him or behind him were being paid. You want to play football then you sign the contract and forget about the money. This is exactly what is wrong with football players today. It's all about the money and not about the game. He missed all of the voluntary workouts, OTAs, and training camp and it cost him.

He has the final say. It doesn't matter what the agent wants at all. Like I said, the player controls the agent and the money that the guy picked behind you has nothing to do with you. Like the Katie Blackburn said, at the end of the day it is just a number and that's how much money you are going to be making, fuck the rest of the bullshit. It has nothing to do with you. Whoever came up with this idea that draft picks must be paid according to where they were picked? That is horse shit. Draft picks should be paid whatever the organization wants to pay them and that's that.

You say the Bengals are a cheap organization, I say the Bengals are a smart organization because this Smith has bust written all over him and has already been a major disappointment.

And yes his weight issue most likely does have to do with his injury. He broke a bone in his foot because his foot bones couldn't support that much weight on it. Don't be so naive.

And a 350 pound weight clause does not show that Smith is willing to work hard and stay in shape. 350 lbs. is still way overweight. You guys are silly.

and reading some of these posts, i must say alot of you guys are just saying really stupid shit. The injury happened during non contact drills. This doesnt mean he was standing around doing nothing. He was doing drills that didnt involve contact which means he was doing some sort of activity.

how many players blow an ACL on no contact, or tear an achilies on no contact. Being his size has nothing to do with this being a freak injury.

and yes the players do pay the agent, but the agents job is to get the player a contract that is fair or above his value. In this case the player was only looking for fair value of his draft status. I blame the bengals 100% for this long hold out.

Its also funny how HBO portrays smith as an outcast or someone who is not respected by his teammates. but then last night they had no choice but to show how welcomed he was by his teammates who know and understand that a player who is holding out is looking out for his best interest. This is a job....and anyone would want to be paid a fair price regardless of the career
NFLTA is reporting that Smith came in a decent distance over his contract clause . They reported that his clause is 350 and he was at 360-370 . All in all it's being reported that he won't be seen on the feild until at least week 6. Because even after his fracture heals they want him to drop 20-30 pounds before thinking about putting him on the feild .

If this is true , not the best way to start at your new team eh? come in over the contract clause and then get a stress fracture in non contact drills .

The contract clause was put in at the last moment. Smith showed up around 360-370 and then they decided to put in the contract clause at 350 so it never happens again.

Even so, 350 is still 20-25 lbs. overweight. He should be around 325-330.

Makes sense then . I just heard he was over the clause , wasn't sure when it was put in.

Either way they said he won't be on the feild till he drops 20-30 pounds even after his foot is fine.

OMG iam gonna have to cut up your entire post tailback....u dickhead!

Are you serious? so your gonna take a job making less then what the job would normally pay? you gonna take a job where your getting paid less money then a someone hired after you. It may be a game, but its still a job and he need to be paid for the value of his service and his draft position is what earns him that value.

Whoever came up with this idea that draft picks must be paid according to where they were picked? That is horse shit. Draft picks should be paid whatever the organization wants to pay them and that's that.
omg....STFU. You can not be serious. your saying the drafted players shouldnt have a right to negotiate. So by that same rational vets dont have the right either. Maybe they should be offered a flat rate of $10 per hour. Maybe one day if you get out of the fast food profession you will understand the need to negotiate your salary.

You say the Bengals are a cheap organization, I say the Bengals are a smart organization because this Smith has bust written all over him and has already been a major disappointment.
the more i read the more i see you as a moron. the bengals are smart because they drafted a bust....hmmmm....yeah, that makes the most sense

by your logic all nfl players or people in general over 300 lbs would be on crutches......

most linemen are about 325......the weight clause is 350

i think you pretty much summed up in this one post your lack of knowledge of anything related to a career. or football for that matter

i'm going to take a job that pleases me. i'm not going to worry about what the guy behind me is making me or what the guy above me is making. i will look at the fucking paycheck and say "that is nice" and sign on the dotted line because unlike you i don't give a shit about what other people are making, i only care about what i am going to be making.

i never said players don't have a right to negotiate. they do, but the bottom line is that the employer decides how much the employee is going to make. that's how it works in all businesses and that's how it will work forever. if the employee doesn't like the pay then he can packing his fucking bags and go home. end of that.

the more i read the more i see you as a moron. the bengals are smart because they drafted a bust....hmmmm....yeah, that makes the most sense
the bengals are smart because they didn't want to pay andre smith a shitload of money that he doesn't deserve. he's out of shape and has shown little desire to be a part of the team by missing all of training camp, etc. showing up late and out of shape is not exactly the best way to impress your employer.

uh no. i said 360-370 is overweight and had something to do with his injury. i also said he should be around 325-330. even at 350 (the contract clause), Smith would still be about 25-30 lbs. overweight. what aren't you getting?
i think you pretty much summed up in this one post your lack of knowledge of anything related to a career. or football for that matter
i think you pretty much summed up in your one response that you don't understand how business works or that this is about playing football and nothing else. the employer pays the employee and that's the bottom line. you don't like what the employer is giving you then you pack back your bags and go home. you can negotiate all you want but at the end of the day the employer will tell you how much he is willing to give you and you make a choice, sign or go home.

there's no point in drawing it out for months and months to try and get them to cave. especially over a couple of million of dollars. Smith was letting his ego and his agent get in the way of him playing a child's game and helping out himself and his team.

it's retarded. sign the fucking contract, get paid millions, and go play football man. it's a fucking GAME.

sidenote - this is the second time you've proven that you really don't know how football works. i remember a couple weeks ago you made a post about how the coaches treat the players like shit cuz they were ribbing them for not playing through some pain.

get a clue man, have you ever even played football? honestly?
