This is why i'm not a fan of bench presses lol, was nobody spotting him?
Saw this earlier today. Definitely sounds painful as hell, I can't imagine either. And yes, someone was spotting him but it's kinda hard to react to something that fast. I'm sure after it fell the guy got it off within a second, but still.
Season I: 10-6 (NFC North Champions)
Season II: 9-7 (NFC North Champions)
Season III: 13-3 (NFC Champions)
Season IV: 11-5 (NFC North Champions)
Season V: 2-1
Sounds incredibly painful. I hope he can pull through this.

On the SC boards they are saying Johnson was working with 275 lbs. and had a spotter at the time.
If it slipped out of his hands and fell on his throat there is no way in hell a spotter could have stopped it. Maybe slowed it down if he had his hands under the bar at the time but a lot of spotters do not spot like that, especially when these guys are all advanced weight lifters and 275 is most likely something Stafon does on the regular.
They did say that the spotter helped get the weight off right away and had he not been there the situation would have been much worse.

Thanks...I was wondering what he was lifting, I knew it had to be around 250.
God damn, I gotta stop talking about this, makes me cringe just thinking about it.
I was just about to ask you Omar....If the spotter could have even done anything.
Honestly there's nothing you can do with that much weight unless you have your hands under the bar and are supremely strong.
275 just slipping out of the guys hands and falling like that is going to fall fast and it is going to be incredibly heavy because of it's momentum and it is so unexpected.
And even if the guy spotting is really strong, he would basically have to upright row 275 to get it off of Stafon's throat, and that is a shitload of weight to move by yourself like that in that kind of situation. I'm 99% sure that he would have needed another guy to get the weight up and rack it.
A doc over at the SC boards broke down the possibilities of the injuries that Johnson most likely suffered, he is most likely done playing football this season and his career could be in jeopardy, depending on the severity of the injuries.
