We were discussing how teams numbers go down when they suck . And fans of a few sucky teams were talking about how the owner is making no effort to progress the team so why should they pay for tickets or buy anything that gives money to the owners .

I was always a person who thinks you should support your team whether they are good/bad/indifferent but clearly some others disagreed .

So basicly my question is , if you are currently supporting a sucky or average team , do you watch/go to games? Or do you like some people , avoid watching them or at least watch them much less than in the "good days"?

And if you don't watch them as much as you did when they were good or "trying to be good" do you think that makes you any less of a fan or is it the same?
To stop supporting a team you have to have a genuine beef with ownership. For example, after enduring the Culverhouse era in which there was an admission of not trying to spend money to improve the team, I vowed that I would never support a team that is not showing a commitment to winning. I can handle losing as long as the organization isn't tanking it. For example, I am a big hockey fan and I love the Lightning. Just because the Lightning were one of the worst teams in the Eastern conference last season doesn't mean I am not going to support them. Ownership was fractured, but, the guy calling the shots (Oren Koules) was trying to win...so...I have no problem spending money on the Lightning.

On the other hand, if an owner ever decides to go the way of Culverhouse again, I won't support that team. I'll take my money elsewhere. I lived through intentional mediocrity once and it was awful. That is going on right now with the Bucs and I still watch, but, I don't have my season tickets anymore and I haven't bought a single piece of Buccaneer apparel this season. The Glazers showed a commitment to winning...at first. Now, they have a track record for not spending as evidenced by the lack of cap money spent over the last 5 years and the lack of guaranteed cash paid out over the last 5 years. Add in the firing of Gruden (save me the "they still have to pay him arguments) and the hiring of cheap labor in Morris and Dominik and the veteran cuts to save money and it is all pretty clear. They are focused on ManU and the Bucs are second fiddle. They have packed up their tent, so I will too.

Gruden will coach next year and wherever he does, that organization will have several new fans...myself included.

What you are really going to find out with the uncapped year coming is who is going to spend money to win and who is going to hoard money and simply collect a revenue sharing check (i.e. the Culverhouse Bucs).

Well if Fisher somehow gets fired and Gruden gets hired in place, there's always room for more Titans fans on this site.

The Ravens slide up and down year in and year out. Occasionally we do well several years in a row, but every now and then we have a horrible year (ex. year before we got Ngata).

But hey Baltimore had losing records from 1996-2000, until they won the Superbowl. So I've seen the best of bests and worst of worsts i guess.

being a sports fan is just being a sports fan. But this is funny. You make it sound like the Ravens have been around for years and its really a short history.

They've been around for 13 years? Yes, you're correct in your assumption. The Ravens, in fact, have been around for years

No shorter than Harold Jackson's stint with the Rams.

For an individual 13 years is a long time relatively speaking.

For an entire organization 13 years is a drop in the bucket. Using terms like several and every now and then arent valid till they've been around a really long time. You havent seen the best of best or worst of worst, anything yet.

stop being an aloof asshole. you won't say how old you are and you rep a slightly higher than medicore player with your SN. for a kid that is 20 or 21, these 13 years he has been a fan of his team is several and every now and then. If you want to get technical, the ravens are the old browns, who have been around since even before your old ass was born. so stfu already and DIAF.

The Ravens were once the Cleveland Browns. He could have followed them with the move too.

i think what is being mised is that the word years refers to a multiple number of years, IE 2 or more. the fact that rams29 is too stupid to understand the pluralization (if it aint a word it is now) of the word year is what is confusing to us all i think. it is really hard to believe someone can be that stupid seeing as how even houstonbitch, mitch, and aso could even grasp this concpet of 'years'

Jags get my attention, regardless of record. However, how they are doing dictates whether I'm interested in anything else related to football. If they're doing well, I'm paying attention to how other teams are doing, and also actually play fantasy football. When they're doing poorly, I lose interest in all that other football stuff.

They always have my attention, though...

I guess some people are more die hard about sports then others. If you can jump bandwagon to bandwagon and have a good time so be it. You'll get no respect from me. True fans are the ones that suffer through the losing and misfortune.

Some people look at Sports as Entertainment, there's nothing wrong with that. There are others though that look at their team as not just a form of entertainment but something they feel they can live their life through.

                                It's complicated to explain.

Some people watch their team, I live through my team.
