The Philadelphia Eagles acquired LB Will Witherspoon from the St. Louis Rams just before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, a league source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora.
The Eagles give up rookie WR Brandon Gibson and a 2010 fifth-round draft pick for Witherspoon, an eight-year NFL veteran who has 682 tackles, 19 sacks and eight interceptions in his career. Gibson was Philadelphia’s sixth-round pick in April and had played in one game this season.
The Eagles acquired linebacker help in light of an injury to Omar Gaither, who suffered a sprained foot during last weekend’s loss to the Raiders. Gaither had started the first three games of the season in the middle before he was replaced by veteran Jeremiah Trotter, who signed during the team’s bye week but has had mixed reviews in two starts since returning to Philadelphia.
The Eagles’ original starter, Stewart Bradley, was lost to a season-ending knee injury during the preseason.
