    Eagles trade for Witherspoon

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired LB Will Witherspoon from the St. Louis Rams just before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, a league source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora.

The Eagles give up rookie WR Brandon Gibson and a 2010 fifth-round draft pick for Witherspoon, an eight-year NFL veteran who has 682 tackles, 19 sacks and eight interceptions in his career. Gibson was Philadelphia’s sixth-round pick in April and had played in one game this season.

The Eagles acquired linebacker help in light of an injury to Omar Gaither, who suffered a sprained foot during last weekend’s loss to the Raiders. Gaither had started the first three games of the season in the middle before he was replaced by veteran Jeremiah Trotter, who signed during the team’s bye week but has had mixed reviews in two starts since returning to Philadelphia.

The Eagles’ original starter, Stewart Bradley, was lost to a season-ending knee injury during the preseason.

It's almost as if they are trying to be terrible on purpose.

This team has no depth at LB, and they keep getting rid of quality veterans. Pisa Tinoisamoa, Chris Draft, & now Witherspoon, who would have went to a few Pro Bowls the last couple years had he not been on a team that has won 5 games in 3 seasons.

It's clear Chip Rosenbloom is only concerned with cutting payroll. But until they say that publically, I pin this disaster of a season directly on GM Bill Devaney and the Steve "Play For The Tie" Spagnuolo.

LOL. Rams lost. On a positive note, they now have another WR on their roster.

Witherspoon is the best LB the Eagles have had since Jeremiah Trotter (when he was good).....?

            Rams WR Depth Chart:

            -Donnie Avery
            -Keenan Burton
            -Tim Carter
            -Danny Amendola
            -Ruvell Martin
            -Nate Jones
            -Brandon Gibson

This is the worst collection of WR's, probably ever.

Aside froom Avery, only hardcore football fans might remember Tim Carter from his Giants days, or know who Ruvell Martin or Keenan Burton are. Very hardcore football fans might recognize the others.

i only know amendola and gibson because they were on the eagles roster this year, and i remember tim carter because he recovered a special teams fumble for a touchdown against the eagles once. awful wideouts.

Rams cut Nate Jones today. Gibson is moving up already.

Carter was supposed to be the best deep threat that year out of that draft. He came from Auburn and we wasted a 2nd round pick on him.

Witherspoon was a stud with Carolina. If we'd have kept him our LBs would be dominant. 'Spoon - Beason - Davis... not a better 3 in the league.

Witherspoon hasn't done much as a Ram. Good move. Get more young talent in and more old talent out. If the Rams are going to rebuild, they might as well do it right this time.
